Let's talk about some creativity to technology. At first, artists use canvases, paper, pencil, and other art tools to create pictures. Now, the internet has all sorts of paint/sketch programs and paint/drawing apps that allows you to make some art on a screen. What do you guys think about this? Do you create some pictures using the programs/apps?

I'm not to good on digital art, I don't know why. But I do know that I'm much better at hand drawn! I love drawing, and any form of art I love, even digital. That's why I'm trying to become better at it.

Well, as much as I love digital and want to know how to do it, I can't at the moment because I have no mouse skillz >.>

However, I still do traditional and semi-traditional (if you want to know what I mean, I mean I use a digital game that imitates traditional very well), as that is what I'm stuck with right now.

I'm kind of a... Digital only artist haha, my main forte is Pixel Art really. I personally am a fan of Gimp as a program for pixelling, and whilst programs like Photoshop are handy, and I do use them from time to time, Gimp just feels much nicer for me to use when pixelling, probably due to how in control I feel. Control is pretty much everything to me in art (well, next to fun, I always live for fun).

As, well, is expected, I do think all the tools we have for digital art are amazing, and allow for a whole range of things, I seriously hope it doesn't drown out traditional, I would be very saddened if technology went that way haha.

Do you perhaps have a drawing tablet in mind you want to buy? If not, you can try to learn how to draw digitally with a mouse if you really want to, I know a few friends who can draw amazing with a mouse. c: If not, semi-traditional is a good thing for you to keep doing. What programs would you like to use btw?

Yeah, I'm eyeing the Bamboo Pen Tablet at the moment. I've got a friend who uses it to draw, and it works for her.

Probably Photoshop, although MS Paint + GIMP works for one of my friends, so I'd try that before jumping into photoshop. I'm hoping to go full digital within ten years.

I also want to be good at digital art, does anyone have any tips?

But I have no doubts that traditional art would stay as a main form of art - and my favourite :)

Well for one, like all art, you can't force it. Forcing something can easily ruin it for you, and will overall give you a bad time. You have to let it come to you. No doubt, everyone can do it, and it'll take effort, but it is achievable.

I'd say start with simple projects, maybe nice simple faces or emoticons. Slowly build up your style and knowledge, learn what works and what doesn't. Over time learn how you like to work and experiment with several things (pixel style, graphics tablet drawn etc)

It may take long, or it could come in a snap, but what's important is to not get frustrated. If you're in a bit of a tight spot, step away and breath. You need to be in the right state of mind for art, and anger is far from right.

    Hope this helped!

For me drawing digital art is just like drawing on paper, maybe even easier in fact, but that's because I've drawing like that for about 2 years now.

But even now I still draw on paper and a lot of the digital art I have started as traditional sketches on paper. I usually just scan my pictures and draw over them, adjusting things, adding accessories, and color.

But I know not everyone has a scanner so I say you should draw a simple picture and try to recreate it digitally and do this over and over until you are satisfied. Then just do this for more and more pictures, getting more complicated as you go on, and soon enough you should have digital art down to a science.

Hope you find this helpful and it's not just me blabbering.~

Utilize your layers, customize brushes to make creative textures, blend colors that aren't just darker shades of the one used. Find a stability size that's right for you, and always ALWAYS use references. Me and Del use references, and bot of us recommend using as many as possible to help teach yourself how to draw things. May I ask what art programs you have by the way? I could give further info if I know! ^v^

Thank you for the helpful tips! We only use Colours 3D, an application in the 3DS. Is that okay?

Yeah that's totally fine! I'm familiar with that program. When making lines with it, try making some thicker and thinner at certain edges. For some reason, on the 3DS lines the same size aren't as interesting. The airbrush tool actually makes super thin lines on its lowest setting! so check that out. Keep your layers in order, merge them as necessary. Sometimes, the colors program can slow down after too many strokes, if this happens, save the canvas and then reopen it so it doesn't crash. If you want to know anything specific, I'll be happy to help.

That's awesome to hear! Actually, Clip Studio Paint went on sale for 17$ about a week ago, maybe keep an eye out for it to drop that low again too? I can't wait to see your digital works!

@[member="ShiroKyun"], I'm practising as much as I can on Colors!3D. I'm learning techniques and shading for digital art, and right now, I'm just doing simple drawings with the techniques and then I'll be better at it. Do you have good tips on shading, though?

That's awesome to hear! And for shading on Colors 3D, both hard and soft shading work effectively, but depending on your style, which one giving the greatest effect can vary. If your style is more cartoon-y and sharp, try using the pen brush for some hard shading, but as the strokes get close to edges, use your eraser and lower the opacity so it fades. If your art style is more paint-like and gentle, you might want to use the pen tool with lowered opacity, and blotch some shading with the airbrush so it has an airy effect. Hope it helps!

I'm not great at digital art, and until I get a drawing tablet I don't plan on investing into software. I do pixel art and some avatars(my own I made mostly myself), and use pixlr.com/editor for that. It's a nice web-based editor that's pretty powerful, kinda like PS, I think
