Hello and welcome to Ask Lake Valor!, my new weekly Q and A thread. Always wanted to talk about yourself but never gotten the chance? Well here it is! Question for this week: Tell me about a movie that stuck with you. What about it made it so impactful?
Coco: probably because it had a lot to do with Mexico (which is my ethnicity) The music was also spectacular and not many movies make me listen to the songs so much, not to mention singing them on account of my HORRIFYING voice.
Toy Story 3. In my opinion, the best Pixar movie. The first two movies were such huge parts of my childhood, and so when the third one came out my parents and I went out and saw it in theaters (which was something we never did back then). I still remember the emotion hitting me really hard, despite me only being 10 years old.
Dunkirk: One of the most well-made movies that I've seen in my entire life. I know that it has only been out for a year, but it has set up a high bar for any future historical movies. Christopher Nolan used actual airplanes (Spitfires, BF-109, Stukas, etc) to film with. Tbh, he went beyond what was expected of him to make the best movie that he could make and I'm glad that he did it.
Dumbo Besides the fact it reminds me way too much of my mom, I also felt Dumbo's plight as I was bullied alot by kids my age and by adults, and my parents had to do their best to protect me emotionally and physically from the abuse. In the end, seeing Dumbo surpass everything the others thought he couldn't really helped me on my desire to show others wrong (my parents were the main drivers for this, though)
Studio Ghibli's Kiki's Delivery Service. The movie is very special to me. I saw the movie when I had moved away from my parents. It was very difficult moving far away from my family. when I first watched it years ago I found Icould relate to the feelings Kiki experiences in the film. I love the combination of Hayao Miyazaki's visual flair paired with the brilliance of Joe Hisaishi's music.
I personally loved Wreck it Ralph. It was super emotional for me at the end despite the outlandishness of some parts, and I liked the Ralph/Vanellope dynamic a ton. The Mentos volcano fight scene and the part after it were just too much. I hope the sequel is good.
Arrival. It's an absolutely beautiful movie that makes you think. I love the premise of aliens and the thought of communicating with them. It's grounded despite being a sci-fi film. I love the theme: communication. We need communication. I love that. It also got me interested in possibly reading the Story of Your Life in the future.
Spirited Away! For starters, its a beautiful movie and the soundtrack is just as good. I also loved the whole plot line (and as I was growing up my dad collected dragons so I have a big soft spot for haku).
"The Fox and the Hound" just thinking about it makes me cry. I had to give up three dogs because we were moving.
Tron. The original one. It was so far ahead of its time that it was poorly received, but it paved the way for Pixar and computer animation. I never get tired of watching it.
'Legend of the Guardians' (not Rise), because of the epic battle scene, the wide array of characters and the beautiful plot~
The Mist. The whole movie was pretty good, but it's the last 10-15 minutes or so that really stuck with me. No doubt one of the most impactful (and depressing) endings to a movie I've seen so far. Wolf Children is another movie that stuck with me. Wasn't expecting an anime movie to be so emotional. Haha (and yeah I totally don't cry I swear!)
Hmm...perhaps it was 'I am Legend.' There's this dog in this movie who got infected and turned into a wild and murderous dog so the master had to kill him. I got emotional seeing that scene. Also, Two Brothers. Its about two tiger brothers who get separated when they were cubs. And meet after many time when they were grown up tigers. It made me cry.
