Assault Vest is a competitive Pokémon item introduced in Generation 6. What is unique about it is that it provides a 1.5x boost to special defense at the cost of only attacking moves being enabled for the Pokémon holding the item. With this extra boost in special defense, some Pokémon become more threatening than they would be with another item. What is your most favorite Assault Vest Pokémon? Which Pokémon do you think is the best at utilizing an Assault Vest?

I prefer to use Guts Conkeldurr with Assault Vest, as it works very well in combination with my most common OU teams. Drain Punch is reliable recovery, and with Guts, opponents will regret thinking a burn will cut its attack. However, I think Tyranitar utilizes Assault Vest the best as with the boost of the Assault Vest in combination with sand stream makes its special defense phenomenal! The only reason I don't use it is because its susceptible to common physical fighting moves and burns.

AV Togekiss can swallow T-bolts and Ice Beams all day while dealing a lot of damage with moves that provide great coverage. That Special Defense boost allows for Togekiss to invest in another area without worrying about the bulk there.

Also, Probopass with the Assault Vest is a huge threat and can eat water type attacks like its nothing. Also, Probopass has a huge movepool to choose from, so that definitely compliments it.

There are a few I can think of:
Regirock makes for a good Assault Vest user, making the big lug really bulky.
I personally use Assault Vest on my Metagross, it makes it a very defensive tank that can take plenty of hits.
Finally, Assault Vest Goodra is one of my favorites. It becomes just so hard to knock out, especially with a bold nature and maxed defense.

Goodra is one of my favorite Assault Vest Pokémon. Special moves don't do anything to it at that point, making it incredibly tanky. It's honestly been one of my favorites to use since I figured out it was even a thing. There are more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

I don't really use Assault Vest much, but Conkeldurr and Goodra would probably be my favorite. Most Fairies run special attacks (of course they're Mawile and the like) so they both get extra protection from that, and they're both fairly bulky and can survive hits and hit back.

Walrein might be a good AV user potentionally, though Leftovers might be better.

In VGC 14 I used AV Scrafty with matching intimidate. It took so many hits for me and clutched so many games. AV works really well with intimidate. Other than that AV Goodra is my other favourite. Bulk+coverage OP!

Assault Vest Goodra is and probably always will be a very powerful combination. I find that Aggron also benefits quite well from Assault Vest, as most of its weakness tend to use special attacking moves. It is a good alternative to Mega Aggron in my opinion, and it helps Aggron become a more competitively viable counter to most fairy types in the OU and Ubers meta games.

Along with the mentioned Pokémon suitable with Assault Vest, I really like placing an assault vest on Excadrill and Tornadus-T. I think Excadrill is a good option because it can alllow it survive longer against fairies and be able to take super effective special moves from fairy types he checks (like Earthpower from M-Diancie, Focus Blast from M-Gardevoir, and Fire blast from Clefable). Assault Vest on a Tornadus-T allows it to be a fairly bulky Pokémon that can always switch out and regain some health with Regenerator.

Another decent Assault Vest user is Raikou. It's great against Thundurus and is always effective against water types, making it a nice offensive piece in OU.

Raikou, Torn-T, and Conk are all pretty popular.

However, a Pokémon I love to slap AV on is Slowbro. Why? 95/110/80 bulk is decent, but with an AV, it gets all the more bulkier on the Special spectrum. It has recovery via Regenerator, and has an amazing movepool of Fire Blast/Psyshock/Ice Beam/Scald.

Goodra. Mainly because the thing pretty much walls almost anything with an Assault vest. It an even live a Draco Meteor from a Latios which is well. I like using Goodra tobait in Greninja and then kill it because It's gonna ice beam. It also has an expansive movepool and it has an immunity to grass in the form of sap sipper.

Two of my favorite Pokémon to use with an Assault Vest are Tentacruel and Gardevoir.

    [3D='073']

    Tentacruel @ Assault Vest
    Ability: Liquid Ooze/Clear Body
    EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
    Timid Nature
    - Acid Spray
    - Scald
    - Ice Beam
    - Giga Drain

SpDef with an Assault Vest = 415.5

Acid Spray lowers the target's SpDef by -2, which makes the other three moves hit harder. I use Scald over Surf or Hydro Pump just for the burn chance.

    [3D='282']

    Gardevoir @ Assault Vest
    Ability: Trace
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
    Modest Nature
    - Moonblast
    - Psyshock
    - Shadow Ball
    - Focus Blast

SpDef with an Assault Vest = 400.5

This set is so much better than Mega-Gardevoir! Trace is an amazing ability, and if played correctly, you can steal some dangerous abilities, such as Sheer Force, Regenerator, Speed Boost, and Infiltrator.

There's the common Assault Vest Azumarill set that I occasionally use the item on. More recently I've put it on a Genesect for Ubers and at the moment I'm experimenting with using it on a Tangrowth, to somehow make a Wall out of it. (If it'll even work)
