    Hello fam.

With Pokémon GO being a thing now, we have witnessed the capabilities this Augmented Reality has brought to us. It's the closest thing, as we know of so far, to make Pokémon training and battling more convenient and awesome than ever before.

But with the introduction of this game, I'm sure there will be loads of battles to come along with it as well. Since this game is based on our surroundings versus traveling in a virtual world, the Pokémon we catch will be unique and different compared to our peers. Though this game encourages actual traveling to catch our Pokémon, our competitive strategies in the Nintendo games may vary due to the limits we have in this virtual reality.

Tiers such as OU, UU, etc will definitely be ten times harder to follow because of this. Meta game Pokémon and Strategies will not be as easy for us to get as they are in the actual games.

CD, will you be as competitive on the Augmented Reality versus the actual games?

PGO Will likely not have extreme competitiveness, but there's no way to tell for sure. If trading across the world becomes viable, or zones are extremely limited, then we will see some competition, and it depends on if online play exists or not. I think online may exist, and that the geo-location AR part will just be for capture of Pokémon and Forts

Yeah, like mweep said, I'm not sure if the Pokémon GO app will feature as much complexity as a full fledged Pokémon game. Honestly, I don't think it's very likely. After all, it's just a mobile app and it'd probably not be possible to program all the data necessary for all the moves, items, or even Pokémon. Remember, we've only seen gen 1 Pokémon so far. If the Pokémon on Nintendo's next handheld system would have AG implemented, that'd be a different story.

I think designing a metagame of GO will be really tough. Will I use it? Maybe a little bit, just to try it... I'm not into the metagame though.

Remember, however, that all this data can be held on servers.
+, There are rumors that PGO may be connected the Pokémon Z/the next game? Or the NX or something, since they're linking them all. Gen 1 only is a possibility, but definitely will have expansions/migrations in the future if the game really takes flight.
And looking at Ingress's cult following, myself included, that will happen.
Nintendo won't ruin it. Niantic will keep them straight, and so far the Ingress storefront looks good. Also, it's not like Nintendo's money-schemes are that bad... //shot

Maybe this is just a testing grounds for just that.

I feel like it'd be counterproductive for them to release a game this hyped without having a battle system similar to the actual games. I swear 'ta gerd if I only press one button and my Pokémon has only one move I might just... rage. D:

Also I'm totes cool with having just Gen 1 Pokémon on it right now because I am Red's embodiment and I actually live in Pallet Town. *Cough*
Just kidding, nostalgia train is real tho.

I doubt Pokémon GO will have elements to be competitive. It just seems like a casual thing that everyone will play for fun. However, we won't know until it's released.

I would love to see a competitive scene out if it though, just out of curiosity.

Pet peeve: choosing a non-answer like "we won't know until it's released" then picking an "I guess" answer

I'm confident that PGO will have a very active battling scene. The most popular metagames by far are the ones endorsed by PCI itself, so PGO is destined for the same pedestal. There's likely going to be a gradual release of online battling, but I think that local battles will be a possibility shortly after the release of it.

    That's what I think too.

Mobile games are becoming far too popular while actual industries games have pressure to keep on expanding and releasing new content to keep up with their competitors.
With that being said, I feel like PGO is a perfect way for Nintendo to keep the old Pokémon games we all know and love still popular.

    Why do I say this?
Well, lets look at Square Enix: it's become painfully obvious that turn based JRPG games have fallen off the gaming scene across the world with ONLY the exception in Japan, hence why future Final Fantasy games are changing their style from their typical turn based games. Pokémon is indeed a turn based game. I have a feeling Nintendo is starting to get wary that their main turn based game franchise might soon follow in the steps of Final Fantasy. However, what better way to keep it alive than transferring it over to mobile platforms, where these kinds of games thrive?

My thoughts exactly. The gaming market is getting even more cut-throat with the rise of the mobile gaming market.

I think that PGO will become the first non-turn-based game in the Pokémon series (besides Pokémon Ranger games, Pokken Tournament, Rumble, and the PokePark games). PGO, I think, will be the game that ultimately redefines the Pokémon series as a real-time game, along with Pokken Tournament. It's looking to be extremely exciting.
