I've been using avast! for quite a while now and I'm pretty impressed with the results. It's completely free and also comes with a 20 day free trial of it's internet security package as well. If you want a good antivirus software and are not willing to pay the price for an expensive antivirus software, then avast! is for you. It's easy to set up and it's interface is very easy to navigate. If you're intrigued and would like to install avast!, follow this link: http://www.avast.com/download-software

Be warned that if you already have an antivirus software installed, I'd advise against installing another. They are known to clash with each other and result in errors. Rather uninstall your current one (if you like avast! better of course) and then install avast! so that they don't fight with one another.

Let me know in the comments below what you think of it!

I have avast! installed on a few old laptops and an ancient desktop. I've used it for years and it certainly is a beauty. I don't use it for my own personal laptop, but I still use avast! for my android. The best feature of it that I like is the boot time scan. I haven't been able to find any other boot time scanners so this + the fact its completely free sets it apart from the others.

About the clashing thing. That happened on my personal laptop around the time I first got it. I think I had it, Norton, and some Panda anti-virus thing and it screwed up my computer so badly that it kept BSOD'ing so I had to wipe everything and start again. I use a completely different anti-virus nowadays, but avast! certainly is good, especially for older machines.

Yeah, the boot time scan is certainly useful. It's helped me many times. I had avast! on an old computer of mine and my flashdrive picked up a virus from a school computer. The boot time scan took a while but it completely removed all of the malicious files, which I was very grateful for. It practically infected my whole computer and there were important files on there. Glad it worked out in the end.

Antiviruses have a habit of clashing. They would normally scan at the same time and then it becomes problematic because you have two programs using double the amount of memory for the same thing. That's why I always recommend people to completely remove any other antiviruses off their computer before attempting to install another one.

I have the one main antivirus but I have a few others that don't start on boot-up and I only use sporadically. They're a much of open source ones, but they can be resource hogs too.

    Mmm.
