~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a world where people bend the four different elements, Fire, Air, Water, Earth, come two new legends that begin the new cycle. Spoiler: Ena's Character Name: Kanan Shailesh Nation: Earth Kingdom Age: 19 Gender: Male Basic Appearance: Kanan is rather short for his age, with tan skin, dark brown hair and bright green eyes. His hair used to be kept in a top knot, as was the norm, but ever since his desertion he keeps it in a low ponytail instead. He's usually garbed in a dark green tunic with yellow accents and dark brown pants, though he might change his clothes to better blend into the nation he's in. Known History: When the war began, the Earth Kingdom established a new rule. Families from the lower and middle rings were to surrender their sons to the army once they were old enough, while the Upper Ring need not do so. Obviously the citizens rioted, but they fell before the might of the Kingdom's army. Since then, everyone followed this rule religiously, including Kanan's family. Kanan was considered a prodigy in Earthbending, and quickly rose through the ranks. He was appointed commander and he as well as the soldiers under his command were sent out to take control over the Water Tribes. Things quickly went south when the ship they were travelling in were ambushed. Away from land and with limited knowledge of metalbending, they should have lost. In a moment of desperation however, Kanan somehow managed to bend water, and a huge wave arose and swept the waterbenders overboard. Shocked and confused, the teen tried to pretend that it didn't happen. He retreated into his quarters, where he bent the metal of his bed, as if to reassure himself he was an earthbender. Two days later, he overheard some of his soldiers talking. They had sent out a carrier Pidgeon to the Earth Kingdom after the ambush, and had received a reply. They were to imprison their commander and bring him home, where he was to be executed. The soldiers held no qualms over surrendering their commander, and each privately hoped they would be promoted if they followed orders. Hearing this, Kanan's last shreds of loyalty towards the Earth Kingdom disappeared. He silently sneaked past the soldiers and left the ship in one of the lifeboats, along with some of the supplies. He didn't know where he wanted to go, as long as it was away. Element: Earthbending He's very proficient in this, to the point where he's considered one of the best in the army. He's not as skilled in Metalbending, but is slowly improving. Waterbending He has absolutely zero knowledge of how to bend water. Unless he's in the avatar state, he can't do so. Extra details: He belonged to the middle ring of the earth kingdom. Spoiler: Hime's Character Name: Nina Aishi (True name) / Aya Akiyama (Alias) Nation: Fire Nation Age: 18 Gender: Female Basic Appearance: Nina has golden eyes, fair skin, and wavy brown hair, like most Fire Nation people. Before fleeing the Fire Nation, she wore a red, elegant, off-shoulder dress with gold accents. She also wore gold colored shoes. When she fled and made a new persona under the name Aya Akiyama, she began to wear simpler clothing. She wears a black tunic and a gold skirt, all under a dark red cloak. She is also at average height for an 18 year old. Known History: Nina came from a very wealthy Fire Nation couple who were a part of the Fire Nation's royal court. Her father would often attend meetings while her mother would often tend to her own business. Their family was probably perfect; no arguments, just a regular family that doesn't have any problems. However, it was just a probably. Nobody knows what fate has in store for their family. Problems began popping up one after the other after Nina's father began to handle his own platoon of soldiers. It was reported that most of his soldiers committed grave acts, such as hurting innocent citizens and sometimes, taking their lives away. As punishment, Nina's father was sentenced to life in prison. After the incident with her father, her mother began encountering problems in her business as well. Delivery boys and girls would often be lost on their way back, never to be seen again. Countless reports of bases where disobedient workers are kept to be harmed surfaced. Her mother did her best to make the public think that she was set-up, but the evidence was so strong that their side was overwhelmed. Nina's mother was then sentenced to death. Being smart and witty was what defined Nina the most. She began to do an investigation of her own, noticing that the way that the evidences were given were too convenient for those who reported. She then realized that what her mother said were true. Her family was set-up. But she didn't know who did it. She didn't want her family's legacy to end there. She wanted to find justice, she wanted to make sure that whoever did this to her parents will get punished. But she wouldn't be able to do that today. She knew that the mastermind would target her next. She had to flee the Fire Nation, her home, her identity, her true self. Her emotions. She made up a new name. Aya. Aya Akiyama. The Nina who fled from the Fire Nation was no more. Aya will now be the one to continue Nina's battle. Element: Firebending Nina is a skilled firebender capable of handling battles alone. Airbending Being native to the Fire Nation, Nina had no idea that she could bend this element at all. Extra details: She is allergic to many kinds of flowers. The only exceptions are fire lilies, roses, dandelions, alliums, and lavenders. This is why she tends to use firebending to burn down all of the flowers that she is allergic to. The plot for this RP will be decided by me and @Enasencca through private messages 0w0 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kanan yawned as he woke up, mumbling to himself as he did so. Sunlight shone in through the small gap between the curtains of his room. He pushed them open with a flourish, before opening the window and breathing in fresh air. It was another new day, here on this island. It wasnt a very well known one, anf it was where he had been staying for the past few weeks, renting an inn room and working as a bartender downtown. Life wasnt perfect, but it was good. The teen headed to his workplace, greeting the manager and settling behind the counter. He only wished he didnt have to listen to the rumors. Kanan pursued his lips as he heard a group of people begin to gossip to each other. "Have you heard? The Avatar is back!" "Impossible! Didnt he die years ago?" "Its the new one you dolt! Anyway, I heard he's from the Earth Kingdom." "I heard they have a search out for him now! There's a reward for those who give him up dead or alive. A thousand gold coins." A hush fell over the bar. Kanan scrubbed at the glass in his hand with renewed vengeance, ignoring the creaking of the metal shelf behind him.
The ship that contained Nina had just docked into the small island that she will be calling her base of operations for quite some time. Her red cloak made her stand out even more than she already was, but she didn't mind all of the attention she was gathering. Her main focus was to make the person who set her family up repent for their crimes. Nina has been staying on the ship for days, yet she hasn't drank anything for more than a day. She was parched, yet she didn't know where to go for some water. She ended up going in a small bar, where a bartender, about her age, was working. As she found a seat near the counter, many people began to take notice of her bright, read cloak. "What in the...?" "Is this person that crazy to wear that in this kind of weather?"
Kanan looked up to see a girl of his age sliding into an empty seat in front of him. What caught his attention was the bright red cloak she was wearing. Wasn't she hot wearing that? Deciding it was none of his business, Kanan fixed the girl with a look. "What do you want to order?" He asked, stacking the cups on the counter while waiting for a reply.
Nina began to rub her eyes, obviously feeling tired. The bartender began to take her order, but nothing extremely extravagant came into her mind. All she thought of was some water. She began to take the hood of her cloak off, shaking her head. "Plain water," she sighed, "good ol' plain water, kind sir."
Kanan nodded and poured the girl a glass of water, before sliding it across the counter towards her. It wasn't a surprise that she wanted water. If he was wearing such a thick cloak in this type of weather he'd be parched too. With that in mind, he kept the water jug next to him in case she wanted a refill, and began washing another glass. Now that he had nothing to do the rumors began reaching his ears once more. "What do ya think the Avatar is like?" "Maybe he's still a kid! Like that Toph Beifong from the Last War." "Fat chance. Maybe he's old, and like really really wrinkled." "Maybe it's a girl!" There was a round of hysterical laughter as one of the men began making kissing motions with his lips, twirling a lock of his hair. No one noticed the metal shelf behind Kanan creaking more precariously, or the water next to him begin bubbling slightly. In an effort to ignore them, Kanan gave his newest customer a weak smile. "What brings you around these parts? This island isn't a very well known one after all."
Nina gave a nod of appreciation back to the bartender who gave her a glass of water. She began to drink it, feeling a bit more refreshed than usual. "Water really does wondrous things," she thought. Out of nowhere, the bartender began to ask her a question of why she went to this small island. She wanted to tell him the truth that she fled the Fire Nation, or at least tell him a reason connected to what happened to her family. But she had to hold herself back, as the Nina she knew as her true self once has now died and she is now Aya. "Nothing," she sighed, "I just like exploring many different islands and seeing what's good about them."
Kanan smiled a bit more genuinely as he took her glass and refilled it. "Something of an odd choice, coming here. Besides the occasional rumour there's really nothing to see." Having said that, the teen handed the glass over to his customer. "So what's your name Miss? Mine's Candor." Kanan lied, wishing he could tell the other his real name. For some odd, unexplained reason, he felt drawn to the other girl.
Nina gulped, trying to think of an excuse on why bother coming to the island. "Oh, um, well," she stammered, "I'm kinda adventurous myself, so I decided to go here." Nina graciously accepted the glass of water that was kindly refilled by the bartender. The bartender soon introduced himself. His name was Candor. While she wanted to tell him her real name, she couldn't. Nina has to stay as a secret. "I'm Aya," she said.
"Aya. Thats a nice name." Kanan told her, smiling as he did so. The moment was broken however, when his boss appeared and whalloped him in the back of his head. "Candor! I dont pay ya to flirt with gals! Get working and hop ta it!" Kanan grumbled in embarassment as he retreated into the storage room to get more bottles of beer for the old timers, who were all laughing at him. "Nice try kiddo! Better luck next time!" "She's quite a catch! I would flirt with her myself!" "She's young enough to be your granddaughter ya old lecher!" There was another wave of laughter at this. Kanan was angry now, on behalf of Aya. What they were saying was disrespectful. The water in Aya's glass began bubbling, as if someone had dropped a bar of soap into it, when Kanan passed by to serve the old men their drinks.
In reality, the reason why the water in Nina's glass was bubbling was due to Nina firebending it. Candor seemed to notice, although he didn't seem to mind. True, Nina's emotions were one of the few things she had problems holding back. Most probably, she inherited this trait from her fiery parents who were burning with passion, yet the two were also both hotheaded. In order to cool herself down, she began to drink the heated glass of water. Moments later, she began to speak, "Can I have another refill?"
Kanan returned to his spot behind the counter after handing the old men mugs of beer. The earthbender privately hoped they keeled over from alcohol poisoning. "Sure." He murmured, reaching over to refill her glass. It distracted him from the crude and sometimes downright nasty comments the other customers were making. He daren't say anythjng more though, for his manager was still watching him out of the corner of his eye.
"Thanks," Nina said. Although it was weird to ask Candor a question, she decided that she should anyway. "Hey, um," she muttered, "what do you think should happen to people who set other people up to hide their own crimes?"
Kanan blinked, before looking over his shoulder to see if his manager was still watching. The old bat wasn't. Giving a tiny sigh of relief, Kanan looked at Aya and tilted his head. "That's a strange answer, but I think that that's an awful thing to do, and someone who does that deserves to be punished." He answered as he began washing a mug in the sink. The teen hesitated as a weird impulse took control of him. He swallowed. "Uh, this may sound weird, but what do you think about the Avatar?"
Nina just nodded after hearing Candor's answer, although she wasn't sure if their views of getting punished are the same. She didn't bother asking even further about the topic though. As she got bored, she decided to make her finger circle around the top of the glass, before getting a question from Candor. "The Avatar?" she asked, not knowing how to answer. "Actually, I don't think I have an opinion on it," she said, putting her head down, "although I kinda feel bad for the Avatar as well. Being burdened ever since you are a child to save the world... that's not a childhood I'd like to experience."
Kanan mirrored Aya's nod, even as he continued to prtend to be gazing intently at a glass. He was glad the other teen didnt seem to harbor hatred against the avatar (him) but the reminder of his responsibilities made him feel ill.
Another moment of awkward silence, well, at least between Candor and Nina, ensued. The two began to stare at the glass, not mentioning anything else really important. Nina had plans to stay in the island until she found a reason to leave; that is, proof or any kind of evidence that might get her one step closer to the perpetrator. "Anyway," Nina sighed, "I think I should get going now. Thanks for the drink," she said before putting back her hood. She began to walk towards the exit of the bar, although three customers, who were a little bit older than her, began to block the exit. Nina began to raise an eyebrow at them, "Is something the matter?"
Kanan gripped the counter hard enough for his knuckles to turn white as he watched the trouble unfold. He wanted so badly to help, to use the nearby shelf as a weapon and hurl it towards the people who'd been making his life miserable. But he took a dep breath and refrained. One of the men slurred as he answered Aya. He was obviously drunk. "Well ya see here missie, that cloak ya got on look mighty expensive. Why don't ya take it off and hand it over?" The second man looked at Aya with a rather lecherous grin. "And I'd like to invite you back home if you don't mind." The third man just looked downright uncomfortable with the situation. It was obvious he had been dragged along.
Nina glared at the two men who were obviously thieves, or something worse. She didn't bother glaring at the third one as he didn't seem like he had any malicious intentions. She kept her focus on the other two, before responding, "How about a 'no'?" she said in a very grave tone, squinting her golden eyes. She didn't want to cause any trouble inside the bar, so she just decided to leave the two alone and passed through the door. Of course, the two men were drunk, which heavily rendered them unable to grab her by the arm. She just hopes that they wouldn't follow her outside.
Kanan breathed a sigh of releif when he saw that Aya managed to leave without trouble. The releif was short lived when two of the men left the bar and went after her. Trying to stem his growing panic he began washing another glass. The third, nice looking man was at the counter now, looking worried. "I hope that kid's alright." He said, as he took the drink Kanan offered and drank it in one gulp. Kanan shrugged. "They're drunk and slow. What can they do?" "You don't get it! Jim's a retired Fire Naval Officer and Bobby's an ex Earth Kingdom soldier! Both are really strong benders!" He had barely finished his sentence before Kanan was out of the door, ignoring the manager hollering behind him.
