Art that's taught in school is usually all about the fundamentals. So it focuses a lot on shading, perspective, and teaches you the basics of different art mediums (charcoal, pastel, acrylic paints, sculpting). It isn't focused on one area of art unless you take a class that is specifically for one thing. How do you guys feel about learning just basic art stuff in school?

I personally loved learning the fundamentals. Going back to the basics is such a great way to spruce up your art! I personally believe the more you learn and apply the fundamentals, the more interesting your art will become. That's because you'll have the knowledge and you'll be able to apply it to your art. I personally focus most on the shading and perspective fundamentals because I draw digitally so I don't need to focus on painting or sculpting.

I actually never took art? And thus never learned the fundamentals in an educational setting.

I learned most of it by experimenting and reading tutorials online, because I can recognize their worth for my art, that said I think my shading is going pretty well, after all the tutorials I read about it. It was pretty frustrating though at the beginning
