It's a commonly held opinion from what I've experienced, and I've had a fair few people say it to me, family members included. It can be angering to have someone disregard your goals so bluntly and without reason.
Has anyone said the same to you? How did you respond?
If not, how do you think you would respond?

Honestly any kind of work that can get you paid is some sort of job/working business to me. I know many people who work and on the side sell picture and paintings. Being an artist expands to many varieties of work as well, including logo makers, and people who do concept art for industries.

Also if anything, being a housewife isn't an occupation. You choose to be at home all day.

I'm not an aspiring artist, but it certainly is a job. How do you think advertising and marketing images come about? Artists. Art is about making something you enjoy, something that others can share the joy with. It certainly is a job with the amount of work that an artist puts into their piece.

Whenever somebody tells me that, I just tell them I work 3-5 hours at home and get like $200 a night. And that's just freelancing.

Ahaha when people start mentioning the fact that art isn't a job, I start bringing up all the things like magazines, animations, commercials, comics, ect. that involve some form of art. I mean, people say that it isn't a job, but its a pretty big job. Freelancing while sometimes kept, is also the start of many possibilities. Its usually how many artists begin, regardless.

I remember an english teacher told me that art wasn't a job. I still wrote my dang essay on it. And I still got a good grade.

Nothing is a real job unless you're hired by an employer, or if you're an entrepreneur who starts their own business. This applies for not only art, but pretty much everything else you can think of in general.

If it makes you money and it gives you an income, it's a job. I'm not one to comment on how much is a livable income, but I think it's fine as long as you make enough to survive. I know some artists in their mid-20s that definitely don't, but they don't do art full time. They do other stuff, their art is more on the side.

But back to the job, it's a real profession as long as it makes you money. If you want to tell me the artists who made it and make more money than you and me don't have real jobs, the YouTubers that make SO much more money than you and me don't have real jobs, or basically anyone else who isn't officially hired or doesn't work in an office/building of some sort, that still brings in a higher income than you and I, doesn't have a real job, that's fine, but they're still more successful than you.

So, basically, by saying someone's job isn't real, that still makes them a livable income, to me you kind of look rude and ignorant. Sorry.

If you're making money, it's considered a job. Artwork is an art that always impacts history, one way or another and artists do that everyday.
