Some games are simple: you play, you progress, you beat the final boss, and you win. And that's all there is to it. However, some games offer much more than that. They use many different aspects of the game, like music, characters, story, and even the gameplay itself, to give a game that little extra that we like to call "atmosphere". You feel involved with the story, close to the characters, you can even imagine yourself being right there in that world. You and the character you play as become one, and you're completely sucked in. While rare, these games are some of the best on the market. What is your personal favorite game when it comes to atmosphere? Which game left you begging for more, long after it had ended, because you just didn't want it to end yet?
I was watching my sister since she received the game for her birthday, but Little Nightmares was so immersive. I was begging for more after she beat it since so much background was not included. The game puts so much time into the atmosphere that you can just get lost in the backgrounds.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, because of its story and the characters, especially Midna. The dark atmosphere and the story caught my eye and I fell in love with the Zelda series. (I was around 9 years old when it came out and played it. Screw ESRB Ratings).
The Metroid Prime games are this for me (I've only played the Trilogy release of them, so I tend to think of the three as one). It has amazing areas to explore and so much background information that you can find from looking everywhere. The Batman: Arkham series would be a close second.
Xenoblade Chronicles and Chronicles X. God, those games are so amazing at world building, the twists the pain, the joy, the fear that gripped my heart. I could play them over and over again.
