My friend recently bought Pokémon Crystal for the GBC and is really enjoying it. She asked me for other Pokémon games I'd recommend. Should I recommend Sun/Moon or?

I would say one either X and Y or sun and moon! They have a pretty solid layout of the other games and if they really like the games they probably wouldn't mind the older graphics. They're also the most accessible.

I would say SM since they're seem to be really enjoyable but XY would work too, they're probably also slightly cheaper then SM and there's also option of ORAS. Soo I guess I'm saying pretty much any of the gen 6-7 games will work.

Yeah, she doesn't really care much about older graphics. Thanks for the response! :D

I'm leaning towards Sun/Moon tbh because it's the newest ones and she'll be caught up with all these new features lol.

I mean, I am partial, I loved Crystal, great game, any Sinnoh game has an amazing plot, but to get them more into the franchise I would go with Sun and Moon since that is what is new and has a full starter newbie island.

It might be confusing for her to play sun and moon and then an older game that came after crystal. I think Platinum or Black and White could be a nice game to play after that since the physical special split between type based moves are gone and it can introduce new mechanics gradually. Then after those games XY, ORAS, or Sun and Moon could be fun seeing all the improvements and graphic enhancements.

I think it would be better to play an older game than Sun and Moon first. I still play older Pokémon games up until now. From my experience, it's difficult to get into an older game like Pokémon Emerald after playing a way more advanced game like Sun and Moon. The game would feel kinda disappointing because you end up looking for the newer features on Gen 7.

I'd suggest moving up slowly generation by generation. Maybe start with Emerald or Platinum first.

In terms of getting into the basic mechanics of the game, I'd say XY/ORAS over Sun and Moon, since I find them to have more interesting stories to go along with them.

In terms of dispelling the (probably non-existent) myth that Pokémon is childish, I'd say Pokémon Platinum; if you think Pokémon is childish, play through the Distortion World and get back to me.

I would honestly say SM or BW, as both have great storylines, and have a nice tutorial section in the beginning of the game. XY also has well gameplay mechanics, although the story is rather lackluster.

I think that Pokémon Yellow or the older ones are the best option to understand the basic system. then introduce them to 3rd Gen since there you have the abilities and those are important for battles and such. After that you can pick between 4th and last gen since the difference are mostly on the types and ressistance after that.

I say SM is the best since it has a lot of tutorials to get you in the game. Not only that, but SM tells you whether a certain move is effective against a certain Pokémon. SM is just an overall friendly game to new players.
