"What are we waiting for? Let's get out of here!" yelled Aurora as she snatched her bag and started to run.
"Agreed!" Reku said, picking up his pace and following Aurora. None of us are in any condition to be dealing with them right now, but we at least have the energy to run. He thought about the map of the country, trying to figure out where that army came from, when a bad thought popped into his head. "If they are coming from the east in that direction....No, there's no way" He said to no one in particular as he ran.
"Tethys is in that direction! Could that mean..." Rio can't help but stop and look behind her, as if she's hoping that she'll see some sign of Tethys's fate from the distant army.
There is no way to tell whether or not the army passed through Tethys. They do not seem to have anything that would tell them they had gone to Tethys, but there was no way to find out. "We have to get there, pronto!" Reku said, a twinge of fear and worry in his voice. If they were there, and more importantly, if they were there the same time that Ayla was...No, no don't think about that.
Aurora formed three average-sized ice horses and quickly got onto one of them. "Pick a horse and let's go!" ordered Aurora as she pressed her mount forward.
Rio places her bag on top of one of the horse and leaps on top of it. While carefully balancing on it, she gives it a light kick to get it going, while wondering how she can control the horse when it doesn't have reins.
Reku grimaces slightly at the ice, but quickly gets over it as he runs up to one of the other horses. He mounts it fast, shaking off the chills he gets from its body. He pulls out his naginata and uses it as a makeshift whip to get his ice horse moving forward. "KYA" he yells as it starts to gallop.
Aurora pressed her mount to gallop to catch up with Reku. I guess that he just wants to hurry up to meet with that woman and so that he doesn't have to sit on ice for any longer than he has to, thought Aurora.
Reku grits his teeth as he rides, feeling the cold emanating off of the ice horse. "You know in hindsight, it would have been smart to have planned this idea from the start!" He yelled at the others. "This is much faster than if we were going by foot. We should be there in no time!" And no time is what we have. Please be alright, Ayla...
As the three ride, the army in the distance disappears from view, not that any of them would turn around to see them. After some time they see a gravel road that leads in the same direction they are traveling, prompting Reku to veer onto it. The road was void of any other travelers, so the three of them could easily travel on it without fear of knocking anyone over.
"Course I do!" Reku said, slightly annoyed that Rio would assume he didn't. He looked over his shoulder to respond, "If this is the road I think it is, we'll be arriving at Tethys by Sunset!"
"Sorry that I didn't bring up the fact that I can ice-shift some horses," said Aurora apologetically. "It probably would have saved all of us some time."
"It's fine. We didn't know if we would need it before." Reku said reassuringly. She couldn't have expected this would happen. Honestly I'm just grateful that we have access to this at all. Having a cryomancer around has its uses, that's for sure. Looking out into the distance, Reku can start to see rows of trees starting to appear on either side of the road. Tethys was known for its flora and plant-life that surrounded it, arranged by hand, so they were getting closer.
Reku was about to agree, when he saw a change. The trees around them changed, from seeming neat and organized to falling on top of one another. Many of them had clearly been uprooted, some cleanly at the roots, others looking like they'd been hit by a tornado and split at the trunk. Branches and wood chips lay scattered across the ground as the ice horses quickly trotted over them. It seemed light at first, but the more trees they passed the worse the damage seemed. Even the grass looked like it had been damaged, having turned a sickly grey color. "Oh God..." Reku said, looking at the destruction. If this is just the road...I can't begin to imagine what Tethys looks like.
Aurora's eyes widened from the sight of all of the damage. "What would anyone gain from all of this damage?" wondered Aurora out loud.
"Intimidation is one thing. This is wanton chaos. Only someone wielding Chaos could even attempt this kind of damage, let alone want to do so..." Ahead the party can see something large in the distance. It looks to be the town of Tethys, but given the sheer amount of smoke coming off of it, that army from earlier had definitely passed through it.
