The Pokémon anime's English dub, particularly when it was done by 4Kids, has been notorious for "cringeworthy" editing errors, often a result of rewriting parts of the script to cater to Western audiences. What are your favorite botched dub edits? My all-time favorite dub editing error is the "Hurricane winds are a breeze for Pidgeotto here" line in Mewtwo Strikes Back, which Corey said in the 4Kids dub even though the Pokémon shown is clearly a Pidgeot. Another noteworthy bad edit that cracks me up would be rice balls being infamously called "jelly-filled donuts", which I'm sure everybody knows about. When I first saw Brock incorrectly describe the rice balls in that way, I thought to myself "those are some strange-looking donuts!"
They tend to go back and forth between referring to the rice balls and donuts and sandwiches, which always confused me as a kid. They don't look like either, but could be strangely shaped donuts. There's no way that they could have been sandwiches, though.
Of course jelly filled doughnuts. There was one line somewhere that just defies Pokémon logic itself: "Finish it with False Swipe!" 4Kids, you do know that False Swipe leaves the target at 1 HP? No?
That line that's always stuck with me was when Brock claims that water-types are weak against fire types. Like... That's pretty much the first type matchup you learn about in the game... It gets a little more mind-boggling when in that same match, Ash's water-type is beaten by a fire-type attack, so maybe it wasn't just a dub edit. Maybe the entire episode had the facts wrong.
"What Pokémon evolves into Seviper?" It got so bad that Pokémon STAFF had to handle these questions! LMAO
Wait Fire types aren't strong against Water types? Then how did Alain's Mega Charizard X beat Ash-Greninja with Blast Burn?
Not sure if this was the official episode, but I was watching Ash and Volkner's gym battle on YouTube and all of a sudden Ash had Volkner's lines and Volkner had Ash's lines XD Whether it was the real episode or not, it sure was funny.
