How you ever been frozen in battle? You're unable to make your Pokémon do anything and its completely helpless. Its pretty drastic alright! The Freeze status condition is one of the most uncommon to see in competitive play, but it is surely significant when it does happen. Only attacks with a secondary effect cause freeze, with most of them averaging with about a 10% chance. However there are some ways to increase this chance. Serene grace doubles your chances, as with any other condition. Once a Pokémon is frozen it has a 20% chance of being thawed each turn, unless it uses a particular move such as Flame Wheel or Scald to thaw it out automatically. Likewise, being hit by these types of moves will thaw the user. Additionally, a Pokémon can not be frozen in sunlight, but if the Pokémon is frozen and the sunlight occurs afterwards, the thawing process does not speed up. What are some of your experiences with the freeze condition? Do you think it has an impact in competitive battle? Do you use moves that cause this condition in battle? What was the longest amount of turns you had a Pokémon frozen for?

One of my older usernames is actually "Inconceivable FreezeHax" because of how much freeze luck I get. I swear, I get frozen status way to often, it's uncanny. I really like the status condition, probably because it is the status condition that is literally always on my side.

I think the freeze status should work off the sleep status mechanics, instead of the whole "20% chance every turn" thing. Why? Because it is possible for a Pokémon to be thawed out the exact same turn it was frozen. It really doesn't make much sense. The freeze mechanic was broken in Gen I, and it's still broken today, just to a different extent. I use moves like Ice Beam pretty often, but my initial intention isn't to freeze my opponent (since it's such a gamble), I primarily use this move to deal damage. Freeze is probably the most useless status condition, in my opinion.

man but sometimes you get frozen at the least opportune times and it's just like "wow i lost to that sweet 10% freeze chance into six turns without thawing" yknow? It's a cool status effect to have around, but gosh it can be a pain sometimes.

it's always fun to get a little salty now and then though, and freeze is usually good at doing that. :]

I think that the Freeze status condition should either be more common or removed entirely. I've had complete playthroughs of games where there have been no Pokémon frozen, and I ALWAYS have a Water-type on my team and I ALWAYS give it an Ice-type attack.
When it does happen, it's not really worth it. As stated by other Valorians, it could wear off on the same turn it's created, and in the end, it doesn't do much else. Sure it increases capture rate, but so does sleep, and that's much easier to do than freezing someone.

I 100% agree with this statement.

Freeze is completely broken. At least it's guaranteed when you're asleep that you will wake up within the next five turns.
However, with Freeze, it's the complete opposite.

The 20% chance to thaw out is wayyyy too low. I remember I had a Pokémon Frozen, I kid you not, for 15 turns before it finally was killed. This Pokémon was going to secure a victory for me since it was a very strong counter against the opponent. But my opponent got that lucky freeze and was able to kill my final Pokémon in 15 turns.

    That's ridiculous!

I say GF should nerf Freeze and make it a 50% chance to thaw out instead of just 20%. 20% is tooooo low.

I don't know why, but I never get frozen. At all. I don't know how or why.
But Freezing people has caused me to win matches.
