Bug Catching Contests

I never used the Pokémon, I always just entered for the prizes haha. It was a pretty easy way to get stones, besides the Pokeathlon.

 

Tbh I hate them. I could catch a Pinscir or a Scyther and lose to someone who catches a Caterpie. I mean sure, you get a free Scyther, but at what cost? I do use the Pokémon if they're good, though.

Well that was quite fun actually! I loved scyther! It was winning most of the times!

 

I loved them tbh, even after collecting most of the prizes I still participated because they were so fun! I found a shiny Caterpie in there once, but I was unable to catch it, it was awful.

 

I loved these challenges. I'd always enter as often as I could because the prizes were pretty cool and it was fun! I'd usually enter using my False Swipe Scyther I found in one of my earlier runs, haha.

 

They were pretty fun to participate in. I loved trying to catch the "best" bug, despite not knowing the fact that health played a factor. I thought it was cool that there where only some bugs that you could only catch in the contest.

 

The Bug Catching Contest is totally rigged! In SoulSilver, I was phenomenally lucky to catch a lv36 shiny wurmple during the contest. I remember one NPC in particular saying that if you found different colored Pokémon, you get even more points. A high level also helps in the factoring. You'd think with that kind of level and it being shiny that Wurmple would have won, but NO! A Caterpie won and we had to settle for second. Ever since then, I will never forget how shocked I was to lose the contest by catching a shiny even when the odds are even more so low. The Wurmple is now a beautiful shiny Beautiful (Another stroke of luck there) and its one of my favorite Pokémon I've caught.

 

Lv. 14 Pinsir or Scyther (in G/S/C) were almost guaranteed to get you first place, although there have been times I've won with Butterfree and Beedrill. I enjoyed the bug catching contest. It also enabled you to get some great Pokémon early in the game. I've used me a Scyther (later a Scizor) a few times, and also a Pinsir through a couple playthroughs.

I don't remember much from the HGSS version of the bug catching contest, but I think I remember it being pretty identical to the original.

 

I never liked these, mainly because my luck for catching Pokémon is so bad.

 

I remember that when I went to the bug catching contest, I tried to to catch Pokémon that I couldn't normally catch in my version. If I remember right, I caught a Weedle and I just totally loved having it even though it really kinda sucked.

 

I liked the contests, although I never used to win. I always tried to catch something rarer, when nothing ever appeared. I always lost to someone magically catching a Buterfree or something, which I thought was close to impossible.
It was fun for a while, but I don't want the feature back. Ever.

 

Totally worth it to get an awesome Pokémon like Scyther so early in the game.

 

I liked the Bug Catching Contest, since Bug is one of my favorite types! I would always use it to look for a good Scyther, and I would always try to win when I could. Some of the prizes like the stones you could win were really cool, so I would try to get those when I competed.

 

I like these contests! It's a great way to add more Bug-types to your Pokédex as well as potentially win a cool prize if you finish in first place. My winning catches are usually either Scyther or Pinsir, or in some rarer cases, Butterfree or Beedrill.
