I'm not an artist by any means, but I figured I might as well make a gallery here of stuff I've done. It's mostly old sprite-work, but I'm starting to get into it again so there is some newer stuff too. If I get access to a scanner then I'll get some old Pokémon doodles here as well. I also now have a shop here on LV where you can commission your own sprite ideas from me. It can be found -here-. Also, you can feel free to use these sprites for anything you want so long as you credit me for them and let me know. I suppose I should probably post whenever I update stuff here, even though I plan on putting everything in the first post. Since posting originally, I split the Misc Pokémon section into Misc Pokémon and Anime Pokémon. I've also added two new Pokémon sprites, which I'll also put in this post. Spoiler Illusion Rayquaza (D&P Episode 43: Malice in Wonderland!) Shadow Mewtwo (Pokken Tournament) Feel free to leave any comments or (constructive) criticism here.
I love your Pinkan Island and Crystal Onix sprite sets -- they're lovely. Illusion Rayquaza is also pretty great looking. Awesome job man! Do you have any plans to do unique sprites, or is recoloring your preference? =o
My skill set is pretty limited. I'm good at recolors and I can do some minor edits, but any more than that and anything I try will generally end up looking terrible. Although, if I work on more original stuff, I could probably improve those skills. Edit: I found some more old sprites lying around. Plus some new ones, some of which are in a new section called "Classic-Style Pokémon". I changed all of my sprites from a .BMP format to .PNG and given them transparent backgrounds. I've also redone the Black Tyranitar sprite. Spoiler: Original Black Tyranitar Spoiler: New Black Tyranitar
Oooh, these are really nice! My favourites would have to be the re-done third Gen sprites I hope to see more of your stuff!
Wow, I really love all of these sprites! If you have a shop, I might order soon...once I get more PokePoints
I sprite as well but your work is very well refined! I hope I can pick up some tricks and tips for you!
I've been practicing sprite work for years. I first started by recreating the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Sprites in Paint (specifically the Windows XP version) before eventually discovering that I can kind sprites online to copy and edit to my hearts content. Over time my skills have improved greatly and I have picked up a few tricks. Most of those tricks apply only to Paint XP (which I copied off my old computer on to my current one so that I can still use it), but one that works regardless of program is that when recoloring anything, you should always 'borrow' the colors from other sprites from the same game. Also, I have another update. I've turned Alolan Mewtwo into a full spritesheet and added a new Gen II Shadow Mewtwo spritesheet. I also have animated versions of them, but it looks like I can't post GIFs here. Spoiler: New Sheets
Your sprite work is very well done! Especially the Pinkan Island sprites! (I'm a sucker for the color pink) Keep up the amazing work!
Okay, it looks like I've hit my limit for how many images I can have in a single post on that first post, so from now on I won't be putting new sprites up there. Anyway, I finally made a new sprite for the first time in a few months so I'm posting it here, plus a few others that I'm not sure why I didn't upload before. I also flipped my Shadow Mewtwo sprite around so that the crystal is sticking out of the correct shoulder. I accidentally put it on the wrong one before and I don't feel like making a properly corrected sprite right now. And now for the new ones. Ghost-Type Gardevior It's been snowing unusually late in the season over hear and I even managed to get a snow day from school today, so I had time to actually make this when the inspiration struck me this morning. I came up with the idea for a Ghost-type version of Gardevoir and thought that adding parts of Mismagius would make it work well. I replaced Gardevoir's lower half with Mismagius' and made some slight modifications to its waistline to make the transition look as seamless as I could make it. I then changed the colors around so that the white part of Gardevior was replaced with Mismagius's purple and the pink edging of Mismagius is now Gardevior's green. I then decided to change the color of the eye, chest-horn-thing and gemstones to the blue of Gardevior's shiny sprite to make it a bit spookier. I also replaced the lightest shade of of green, found only on the top of its head, to the lightest shade of the blue because I thought it made it look more ethereal that way. At this point I decided to give it Haunter's hands. In order to make sure that the hands were correctly placed in relation to the rest of the sprite, I pasted them over where Gardevior's hands were before erasing the arms so that the hands would be floating in mid air and recoloring them to match the rest of the sprite. Blue Celebi This is just a blue recolor of Celebi, as far as I recall. I don't remember why I made it, but I thought I might as well post it here. "The Gigalith King" I recolored Gigalith so that the blueish-purple rocks that comprise the bulk of its body are gold, the red rock-spikes are crystals and the gray rocks that make up its joints are silver. I then decided to name it the Gigalith King, because I thought it sounded awesome and felt like the combination of precious metals and diamond that mad=ke up its body was fitting of royalty. One-Tailed Vulpix Several Pokédex entries for Vulpix state that it is born with one tail (which is sometimes stated to be white) that splits into six as it grows older (and turns orange). This is based off of what a single-tailed Vulpix would look like, based specifically on one shown in the Pokémon Battle Frontier manga. I think the tail I used as a base came from Eevee, but its been a long time since I made this, so i don't really remember.
I'm back with a new sprite. This one is Black Fog, a giant Haunter from The Electric Tale of Pikachu and probably one of the freakiest thing in the franchise. For those who have never heard of this thing, Black Fog is an ancient and powerful Haunter that regularly devours the souls of people and Pokémon using Dream Eater. It ate the souls of Sabrina's Pokémon when she was young which causes her to go after it in revenge. It then eats her soul. Ash and Brock see Sabrina in the hospital and decide to go after Black Fog. Ash manages to weaken it enough to capture it, but Black Fog uses Self-Destruct to kill itself because it would rather die than allow itself to be captured by a lowly human. Black Fog's death does have the advantage of bringing Sabrina back to life, though. Anyway, with that out of the way, here's my 16-rendition of this horror. Black Fog I took Haunter's base sprite and recolored it black using Glalie's normal and shiny sprites. Then I changed up the eyes to make them more rounded and with smaller pupils. Finally, I changed the interior of Haunter's mouth and the glow around its hands to a yellow-orange gradient with a bit of red in the mouth. The yellow as taken from Treecko's eyes, the orange was from Camerupt and the red was from Sceptile. In retrospect, I should have tried scaling up the sprite to better show off Black Fog's size and I may eventually make a revised version that better reflects that.
I've started a new project that I'm working on. I call it my Pokémon Kaiju Collection. Basically, I'm just recoloring Pokémon sprites to make them resemble monsters from the Godzilla franchise. I've gotten quite a few done in the past few days, of variable quality. I was able to get some of the big name monsters easily since there are Pokémon are basically direct counterparts already, though it gets kind of rougher to find good matches for the more obscure ones. Anyway, here's the first batch that I'm putting up here, consisting of the "Big Five" (the five monsters to have been present in every Godzilla movie franchise to date, not counting the currently running ones), the 1998 Godzilla (officially recognized as a separate monster know known as Zilla) and King Kong (right now I've only got the Kong: Skull Island version, but I might make more later). Here you go. First up we have the Big G himself, Godzilla, King of the Monsters. I chose Tyranitar for this one because... well... just look at him. Tyranitar is basically the Pokémon version of Godzilla already. I mostly based this off of how Godzilla looked in the later Heisei-era movies. The one on the left is just standard Godzilla, the middle one is supposed to be Godzilla when he's firing off his nuclear breath attack. The one on the right is "Burning Godzilla" from Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, when he's undergoing a nuclear meltdown. Next we have Mothra, Queen of the Monsters. This one was a bit harder to pick out, since there are several moth Pokémon to choose from, but I ultimately decided that Butterfree would be the best representative. The patterns on Mothra's wings tend to change from movie to move, but the actual colors used remain relatively consistent, which made this one fairly easy to do. I've just got regular Mothra right now, but I might make her larval form and some of her children later on. Here we have King Ghidorah, the Demon of the Galaxy. King Ghidorah is a three-headed dragon with two legs, a tail and a pair of wings. Naturally I went with Hydreigon for this one, since it's basically the same thing but black, blue and purple instead of a golden/copper color. Now we've got Mechagodzilla, the Bionic Monster. This one feels like cheating, since I used the mechanical Tyranitar from Pokéstar Studios instead of an actual Pokémon, but it works. This one is interesting because I was able to base it of of all three versions of Mechagodzilla to appear in the live action movies. Mechagodzilla, from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and The Terror of Mechagodzilla; Super Mechagodzilla from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (not actually a sequel, despite the title) and Kiryu from Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and Godzilla: Tokyo SOS. And finally of the Big Five we have Rodan. No fancy title for this one, sadly. Rodan is probably the least recognizable member of the big five, but fortunately Aerodactyl managed to make a fairly convincing counterpart. On the left is Rodan's normal orange/tan coloration and on the right is Fire Rodan from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. Here we have Gozilla from the 1998 American Godzilla movie, who later became known as Zilla and basically became the punching bag of the franchise. Almost every appearance of Zilla after his/her debut has been to mock him/her and the movie he/she comes from. I chose Feraligatr for this one because of it's similar body shape and back spikes. Our last monster for now is King Kong, the King of Skull Island. I chose Slaking due it being a Gorilla and, like I mentioned earlier, this is based specifically off of the version of the character from Kong: Skull Island, which had lighter fur than any other version. I'll probably get around to making a classic version and one based off of the 2005 film, but I'm going to focus on other monsters for now.
