Do you guys like to go camping? How often do you go? Are you a bare necessities camper in the deep woods, thriving with the latest calling stiff to make it a fun and leisurely experience, or somewhere in between? What do you typically do on a camping trip? How long do you normally stay out for? What are the things you don't like about camping? Do you have any good personal camping stories?

Oh man. I know I can't complain because some people never get to go on vacations at all, but thank god I don't have to go camping with my parents anymore starting this Summer. Since I was about 5 year olds we've gone camping in France every single year and my parents and sis are going again this Summer as well. Even after so many years of going to the same country consecutively, it was still pretty fun because we did different things every time and there were new people to meet and make friends with, but the 3 years have just been a pain. That's mostly because I can't stand to be around my parents 24/7 with little privacy or space for myself. Camping itself is alright, though I'd like to go somewhere and with different people some time.

I like camping, but only with 1 or 2 other people max. I prefer backpacking (you only take what you can fit in your backpack) because then you can hike to wherever and set up a spot and not worry about other people being everywhere. Camping at campgrounds sucks imo.

No way, I hate it when people just hang around at my respawn point and... oh, you meant the good kind of camping.

I was just thinking yesterday that I need to camp more. Like just grab a weekend a year to be far far far away from everyone and everything. I actually wanted to be doing that today, but I didn't have the planning for it. And the weather is unfriendly here right now.

Other than the camping necessities (tent, firestarting, tools), I usually just bring food, a chair, and a book. Sure, I'll do some hiking, but I'm not a hunter or fisher. And usually its a friday-to-sunday thing for me. I haven't gone on a full week camping trip in like ten years (thankfully). Back in the day when we could bring our gameboy and actually be able to change out the battery! Kids these days and your permanent rechargeable batteries. (I'm not complaining about that, I think it's great that I (or my parents) don't need to constantly buy new batteries all the time).

One time I went on I think a 5-day camping trip as a teambuilding exercise thing with a group I was in. One evening, just before sundown, our supervising adult (whatever the title is) told all of us "Grab a tarp, some cordage, a flashlight, and follow me". We did so, and we hiked a few miles into the forest, not following a trail, as night fell. We reached a clearing and he said "This is where we're staying tonight. Make yourselves comfortable." We weren't prepared for that: no tents, no lighters, no sleeping bags. We ended up making our own shelters/hammocks/sleeping bags with the tarps and just slept under the stars. It was great, but I hate how I woke up covered in morning dew.

I used to go camping with my family almost every summer; we visited Yellowstone, Glacier, and Yosemite National Parks, and had a lot of fun at all of them. National parks like those were really neat back when I was younger, just because there were so many cool animals and cool things to do that I couldn't do back home, but now that I now why most of the National Parks exist it kinda casts a dark shadow on them. Would be nice to see some more neat environments at lower altitudes.

I've never actually been camping before, but I've gone on lots of school camps. Apart from one, we were all situated in dorms, so it wasn't really a true camping experience. On my first school camp I slept in a tent, but I ended up getting sick and had to sleep in a teacher's dorm instead, with another sick kid.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of camping at all. I am a neat freak, and I hate being dirty, and I always get somewhat filthy when I go camping. I do understand why people like it, though. It's just not really for me. :P

Despite this fact, I have been on many camping trips, though. My old school used to host one regularly. I'd always go, but end up regretting it. I adore campfires, however. There's something magical about singing with your friends around an open flame.

I've gone on a Year 6 camp with the whole grade, and it was a truly wonderful experience. It gave the whole grade a sense of independence, and the food wasn't bad too. We did really fun activities such as a Giant Swing, Go-Karting, Survivor and more.

Woah, that sounds fun :o When I went, all we did was go out to the beach and hike all day. I'd love to play a game of survivor while camping someday, that might make things a bit more interesting.

I've gone camping at least once every summer in my living memory, and I love it and the great outdoors. I've backpacked in the past, and I have never once stayed in a camper while camping, and I'm plenty experienced. I love the food that I have whenever I go camping, regardless of who makes it, it just tastes better for some reason. Typically my camping trips are about a week, but sometimes they are only about one night at a time, which is good because I can just take a shower the day I get back.

I went on a lot of camping trips once when I was younger, both at the urging of my parents and my friends. While it was nice at the time, and exposed me to a different atmosphere, I am glad that those days are very far behind me. On the whole I don't like camping, and if I ever have the choice to go camping or not, I'll always elect not to.

I can certainly see the charm, and it's definitely fun when friends are involved. It just isn't something that I inherently enjoy of itself.

I went once on a 3 days camping trip with my cousins and Jesus it was awful
It rained all three days and it wasn't a light rain it was almost a monsoon
there were mosquitoes everywhere at night and one of the guys at the trip accidentally burnt a hole on one of the tents one of the tents and it
I really dont like camping trips at all mostly because of that experience

I was turned off camping when I was in Girl Guides and they treated me like shit all throughout the camping trip. I was made to eat off the ground while the rest were at the table, etc.

I don't mind sleeping in a tent though, I generally fall asleep anyway.
