So if you hadn't heard, Rabbit (rabb.it) is now defunct. Their (now former) CEO released this message on her LinkedIn detailing the struggles the company went through and the failure that they ended up as. I know a lot of us used Rabbit (we've held a bunch of movie nights on here using the service) but unfortunately their monetization model was something that was nonexistent and it cost (pun-intended) them big time. After going through their sub-reddit, I learned that apparently the plug was pulled so fast that the outgoing employees didn't even have a chance to take the site down and so, it is still up there eventually I guess till it breaks? Whatever may be the case, the heartiest of F's for this fallen service and while you're here, feel free to suggest other Rabbit alternatives you may be using.
You can get a big F from me. I used Rabbit a lot, especially when I was watching movies with others pretty regularly a couple of months ago. Now seeing that it is going to go away after a while, brings me a great amount of sadness and I hope that I don't have to go buy a subscription somewhere to enjoy movies with others.
I just tried Metastream! and that works pretty nicely! you have to get a browser extension, but Its pretty easy to use. It's free too, which is nice edit: Link: https://app.getmetastream.com/
F..... I started using Rabbit because in the figure skating fandom, Rabbit was a popular site people would use to stream different competitions and offseason events like ice shows live so that it was more accessible to everyone (especially because some countries who stream competitions live have their sites geoblocked). Later on as I met more friends around the world on Twitter I started using Rabbit as a more general streaming site to binge Youtube, anime, Netflix, anything, with my friends wherever they were. But for me, losing Rabbit will be a major blow to me because I've lost one of the best services of this type being offered right now -- and it's also a blow to figure skating fans who cannot watch competitions easily in their countries.
Huh, that is interesting! I honestly didn't realize people used it to watch sports. Thanks for the insight and hopefully everyone interested in figure skating can find an alternate method.
My only experience with Rabb.it was the LV streams that we did a handful of times. The website will be missed, it was certainly a fun way to stream and hang out with some friends online.
F This really sucks, this is how I watched shows with my friends alot :c I think discord screen share is okay, if you use firefox you get sound as well iirc so if anyones looking for an alternative theres that!
I'm going to miss Rabbit, if only because no other streaming service actually does Netflix in a way that doesn't require all participants to have Netflix. 8) Like ... among my friends, I'm the one with a legal, actual, real-eff Netflix account, and there have been many a times when I've wanted to stream stuff with friends. (All of the Sharknado films, for example. And don't judge us.) But with Rabbit gone, the only alternative people keep talking about is Netflix Party ... which is a problem because none of the other folks in my group have Netflix or want Netflix (even if I create, like, a side account for them on my own). I know. #firstworldproblems and probably also technically pirating. But sometimes, you just want to watch Sharknado with friends, and there really isn't anything wrong with that. But! s/o to Danni for the Metastream rec! Will check that out! My friends and I have totally been violating Twitch TOS in the meantime, so it'd be nice to have something that's slightly less risky, lmao. :')
Yeah, this service has earned a F. I wouldn't even know it, if it weren't for the LV movie nights, but it did seem like a decent service.
