I'm sure some of you have played this game (either by downloading the normal version for free on the internet, or getting the + version on Steam, which comes with the epic remastered soundtrack and tons of other exclusive goodies); game was made entirely by one man named Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya, from the graphics, to the music, to just about anything you can think of, in a six year development cycle.

Best indie game of all time, and also one of my personal all-time favorites in general, and shows that not all indie games have to be an "interactive art piece".

PLEASE tell me someone here has played this. XD

Ahhh it's so nice to see people mention Cave Story! Been a while since I've heard it mentioned.
Either way, I totally agree! CS is a fantastic indie game! Definitely one of my faves as well, along with OFF, A walk in the Dark, To the Moon and many others.
It's been by two years now since i last played it properly. Tots wanna try the newer versions sometime p:

I love this game. I replay it every once in a while, and I even had savefiles for different weapons before hell.

    Ah, Cave Story.
I've played Cave Story+ but after a while I just turned the graphics and audio back to the original!

Yeah, I love that you can mix and match the graphics and music; the "new" soundtrack blows, but the Remastered soundtrack is awesome and does the original justice, I even have it in my iphone, which is super rare for me to have game music on there (other games being the Katamari series, Persona 3/4, and the Jet Set Radio series).

    The only downside of that game is that it's super easy to get the bad ending just because you missed one very important thing (I won't spoil to anyone who wants to try it), then there's other things that you have to remember (such as keeping your Polar Star even when they offer you better weapons til about the end of the game), but then again, that's part of the fun, and I would love to see those types of games make a comeback, because a ton of the current gamers are too damn spoiled with regenerating health and such; look at the Miiverse comments for Super Metroid for example. >>;

Ahh, I find it really amazing how every smallest detail affects the gameplay. And the details take a moment of exploration to spot, too! Didn't even find some on my first go at the game, and still made several mistakes at certain spots ( Such as where to leave Curly )
Aso, love how difficulty adjusts itself depending on your gear. That's an amazing add to the gameplay. Pixel certainly made sure that Cave Story is worth re-playing many times just to experience all that might happen.
I agree, there should be way more of the games of such quality. Nowadays I don't even care about newest games that much because they have 10/10 graphics but the gameplay rarely is 5/10. It's way less complicated, most games take around one night to be done with forever and not even great enough to make you wanna replay it anytime within the range of several years. Finding a good piece of a game is a challenge in the past years.

Personally weapons wise I was most fond of Machine Gun, haha. Not as much of Spur and stuff, although Spur was amazing. Machine Gun was fun to float around with, saved me so many times xD

I agree; I wish that publishers would just stop assuming every "gamer" wants only shooters/miscellaneous Hard-M-rated games (if not casual games that require little to no effort).

Anyway, I always found the weapon where u can't level it up, unless you want weak rubber duckies for bullets, amusing. That, and I like the fireball weapon, which is super handy for the first half of the game's bosses if it's maxed out (especially Balfrog; he's almost impossible without that weapon ><).

Yeah, that'd be such a neat upgrade on nowaday gaming, otherwise I'm running short on addictive indie/ retro games to play.

Ahhh, Nemesis! Was one of my faves, haha. Fireball was neat too. Although I rarely used it. Can't say that Balfrog was all that challenging though. All in all I didn't run into trouble with bosses until further in the game.

THe farthest I got in Normal Mode was the "final boss for the bad ending", but I could not beat him to save my life, so hopefully it won't be as bad as easy (though it's just as big of a pain in the ass no matter what though); I'd love to get to the true ending of the game though. XD

Don't know if this really counts as a double post, but I have to get this off my chest.

    Is it just me, or...

    SPOILERS!!!!!!!

The part where you have to find the tow rope to latch onto Curly before you drown, then remember to pick her up before leaving the core since the door will shut behind you, just gives you this sense of dread and urgency? That, and from this point forward, you NEED a strategy guide and can not miss a single damn thing in order to save Curly in the first place. x-x

    END SPOILERS!!!

Like, that's like the main turning point that defines whether or not you get the good ending. x-x

I did feel like that, yeah. But I only read up on it once after getting the "normal" ending, I didn't need a Strategy guide. Once you know what you have to do, you do it and you're done.

BTW, I'll just leave this heeere...

    XP

I saw someone did something familiar with Jenka, but it was a triple-mashup with both soundtracks and the actual Letkajenka song; can't seem to find it though.

Give it a shot; I've heard great things about that version. : )

EDIT; OH MY GOD, BEAT THE HIDDEN FINAL CAVE ON MY FIRST TRY (on easy mode) I was so effing close to death too. x-x I think I can actually get to the good ending this time. XD
