One of the most important things about any form of fictional media is their characters. A well developed cast of characters and relationships can make a decent game/show/movie/book into an amazing one. For example, DreamWorks's Trolls, although not the best movie with a below average plot and too many pop songs, is still very enjoyable for me because the two main characters are so well developed, and their relationship is heartwarming and believable. Also, Sun/Moon would not be nearly as enjoyable, between the lessened structure, limited playtime, slow start, and lacking postgame, if not for the diverse cast of amazing characters, from the lovely Lillie to ya boy, Guzma.

There are of course certain archetypes for common character tropes, but almost none of them, even of the same trope, are done the same way. Although diversity between them is important, it is also fun to compare specific characters, pairings, friendships, and dynamics of different series. For example, two of my favorite ships, Amourshipping (Ash x Serena, with an admittedly lazy ship name), and Phinbella (Phineas x Isabella from Phineas & Ferb), are nearly identical in structure. The oblivious, goal-oriented, sieze-the-day, optimistic hero doesn't realize the incredibly obvious feelings of the closest female to him outside of his family, despite her often sending out little hints, to the point where even other characters (Bonnie, Shauna, Miette, the entirety of the P+F cast) comment on it casually.

Why am I making these observations just now, you may ask? Honestly, I have thought of them for a while, but was inspired to share them by my English teacher. We were reading Beowulf in class, and she assigned us a two page essay comparing Beowulf to a modern hero. I chose Marvel's Thor, and I found a lot more than I thought I would. One of my classmates chose Captain America, and we made it into a little debate. (It ended in stalemate, since we got the same grade.)

So now I turn the tables over to you. Who are some of your favorite characters, and what similarities do they share? How many connections are there between Deadpool and Pinkie Pie? Pearl and Undyne? Iron Man and Batman? I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

The protag of BNHA (Izuku) and Mirai Nikki (Yukiteru) are quite similar in that they're part of the 'crybaby useless male protag' trope. When they're first introduced, they're both seen as unimportant to their peers, emotional, and even somewhat naive. Of course, through their individual experiences, they mature and end up becoming complete badasses.

My two 'ships' - Pokeshipping (AshxMisty) and NaruHina (NarutoxHinata) - seem different on the surface, nearly irreconcilable. Hinata is very shy and unsure of herself starting out, while Misty is loud and crabby, nearly Sakura-levels of abusive. However, what draws me to the both of them are this one fact: they grow. Hinata grows more confident in her skills as a ninja as well as her womanhood, and Misty grows into a more caring and understanding person - while neither of them losing the positive sides of their base personalities. A lot of people compare Misty to Sakura, but the key difference is that Sakura doesn't grow nearly as much as Hinata, despite the author's attempts to write them in. The Sakura at the beginning is nearly identical to the Sakura at the end - forever pining after Sasuke, barely able to tolerate Naruto's eccentric personality, and doing whatever she can to get her way; Misty, on the other hand, grows from just being a strong Gym leader with a very short temper to a strong person that is far more caring while not willing to put up with the BS of others.

Wow, I was not expecting to get a like... thanks, @Furie . ^_^

Been watching a lot of anime in my spare time these last couple of years and one archetype - a romance one to exact that I find to be the most common is a childhood boy and girl romance. From the ones I've seen, it's really common in the shounen genre and one archetype within the archetype is a delinquent/rebellious hot-headed boy being paired with an equally emotional girl that is otherwise well-mannered to everyone else, but argumentative with their love interest, yet they clearly show their caring side while doing so (in layman's term: a tsundere?).

This type of paring I find the most comparable with is Yusuke x Keiko and Edward x Winry (my OTP BT-dubs). While both the boy and girl share the basic archetype as mentioned above, the girl - Keiko and Winry in this case, are childhood friends of the protagonist, most notably their only true friend growing. Yusuke and Edward both get into shenanigans that irritate their love interest, alongside keeping said shenanigans as secretive from them as much as possible, and even with the insistence that the girl wants to know what kind of dangers that the guy is getting into (out of concern for his safety), the boy in this situation brushes off the girl's concerns and tries to keep their involvement at a minimum, solely for the sake of protecting them. Though it should be said the little by little they get to know more about what's at stake, the more the boy clues them in on what's going on.

Also, both pairings become official at the end of the series in the events of a time-skip where they're both eighteen, a minor one there but still worth mentioning.

Hope, I didn't drag on and got my point across. There's probably more that I missed out when comparing the two couples. I'd be interested to know of your guys' opinion.

As for myself, I somehow can see similarities between Nora from Cytus 2 and Clemont from Pokémon anime (especially XY and XYZ arcs). They're both:
    • Prodigies in their respective universes (though in Nora's case, it's due to her special ability instead).
    • Created a robot who would be their best friend: ROBO_Head for Nora and Clembot for Clemont.
    • Became leaders of some sorts at such a young age. Clemont officially became a gym leader in Lumiose City (not sure about his age by the time it happened, but still...), while Nora became a leader of + - the scientific organization "Kyuu Hou Kai" at 12 y.o. after her surrogate father passed away.
    • Well, this one is a huge spoiler for both Cytus 2 ending and XYZ climax:
Their robots overloaded themselves to help dealing with the big bad of their respective universes. In Clemont's case, it was when he and Clembot took over their gym from Team Flare and destroyed the Zygarde controller inside at the cost of Clembot's main memory. In Nora's case, it was during the final fight against an android (?) named Vanessa who unleashed havoc onto humanity. ROBO_Head did his best to connect Nora and her team to the OS space in order to defeat Vanessa once and for all. Both Clembot and ROBO_Head did get repaired afterwards (albeit only in the "good" and "neutral" endings in the latter's case).
