Ah, chickens. The very definitive animal of me and my sister! If you scroll through the top of our profile, you'll see that we are nicknamed "The chickens!"

Chickens are very beautiful and intelligent animals indeed. They have truly mesmerising intellectual capabilities that are far beyond children's reach. We all have to admit, chickens can be quite funny. Is it how they look? Or how they act when they're excited? Studies even show that chickens are the new 'treatment' for loneliness or depression, especially in older people. So, when you're feeling down, maybe interact with a chicken? Get to know them!

What are your thoughts on the amazing animals that we call chickens?

I personally love chickens, as I love every living thing. Chickens, however, have a very special place in my heart. I had a few chickens (five, maybe?) when I was two years old. I still remember them. They were friends, and most of all, family. They were very social with us, often coming inside the house to chat. My sister and I would feed them vegetable soup that we had (yes, we shared with the chickens). Sometimes, they fell in the pool, but it's a good thing they're great swimmers.

I love chickens to the core of my heart. I do not eat chickens, for they are friends, not food, just like all other animals. Chickens deserve a beautiful life, and it's up to us whether they have one or not. Anyway, here's a video about how amazing they are!

I once liked chickens. I then had them as pets .......... Now I hate chickens.

I had 4. They were smelly, noisy and greedy. Need I say any more about why I don't like them.

I only have 2 stories about chickens, and both of them are about how distracting and inconvenient they can be.

First is from my own life, when I was very young. At that time I lived in a rather rural area, and our neighbours across the fence owned a farm, which raised mostly livestock, but they also raised chickens. About twice a week or so, the chickens would get loose and fly over the fence into my house's backyard. Being the small child that I was, of course I wanted to chase them. So I did, and I would spend time chasing the chickens out of my backyard and back towards my neighbours' farm. While this eventually ceased due to the chickens not escaping, I never did find out how they escaped to begin with.

My second story was told to me by a very good friend of mine. Before he acquired his driver's licence, he had to be chauffeured to his classes. One time his usual ride couldn't take him, so he ended up calling a friend of his mother's to take him. He asked, if possible, to be picked up at 8.30am so he could get to class by 9am. The drive was 15 minutes, so he would have plenty of time. Simple, right?
Well, said friend owns chickens, and she raised them for food. That morning the chickens got loose, and my friend wasn't picked up until 8.50am due to her having to recapture the chickens and clean up after them. It was extremely irritating for him at the time, but it's now something he laughs about, since it's a memorable occasion. After all, who would believe that he would be late to class because 'the chickens escaped'?

Chickens really are frustrating and messy creatures, all in all.

My family raised chickens when I was younger. They were quite cool, and we always had fresh eggs. Unfortunately they kept getting picked off by raccoons and such, and thus we eventually stopped raising them. Having chicks in the garage was definitely memorable though.

Thank you @[member="Doomhound"] for saying something nice about chickens. They are very beautiful and intelligent people (yes, people) who are definitely not meant to live on this planet to suffer for what? Food? Unhealthy food? Inhumane food?

Regardless, chickens are very sociable and are kind when treated with love. Hopefully we can all see what happy, bright, intelligent, beautiful and funny people they are!

Chickens are pretty cool. I've had some growing up, but the most recent one I had was 2 years ago. Chickens have such soft feathers, but boy do they make a mess. I'm not a chicken fanatic, but I just could not eat that chicken when it died.
Honestly, the amount of suffering the chicken species go through nowadays is terrifying. You see it served on a plate in so many places, and even before then, they are fattened up and kept in tight spaces.

@[member="LostSpirit"], you are an angel. I really agree with what you said. But lot's of people do not know where they're chicken meals are coming from. They believe that the chickens lived a good and humane life before eaten, but in truth, they are torchered in factories, which is hidden by the government on purpose.

That aside, I think we can all agree that chickens make the best companions!

I had 4 chickens with the family and I got ALL the cleaning duties.

Henny penny was a nice chicken, always up for a cuddle.

Ender Chick had a bit of an attitude issue but was fluuuuufffy. She always gave lovely eggs.

Fajita was the Devil incarnate, a horrible bully bird who got sent back to where we bought them from within a few weeks.

Feathers was a fat, grumpy spawn of the devil. This one hated me even though I chose her. Daily attempts at pecking me to death were the norm

We eventually got rid of them due to time commitments, we rehomed them though... I am not sorry to see Feathers go, little devil had it in for me every day (Still hate you Feathers)

They're great on a dinner plate

I would love to have a chicken coop out in my back garden. Birds are pretty cool, and chickens in particular are probably my favourite 'barnyard' animals. At least they don't try to lick you like calves.

I haven't had chickens yet, but my family and I are planning on getting 3-4 to raise for eggs this year or next.

We already picked the names for them too: I'm going to name mine Christina Penelope (aka "Chris P."), another one is to be named Henrietta, and I don't recall any other names, though they probably aren't as sadistically awesome as Chris P. is.

We'd be keeping them largely for the sake of eating their eggs. I'm not sure what the plan will be once "their time comes". It's probably something best decided in advance though.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I am a mother to chickens. As with all animals, there is no bad chicken. Chickens have varied personalities just like us. I'm all the way against raising chickens for meat and eggs. It's horrendously, stupefyingly cruel. I mean, why?

Because they taste good and have protein, something out body needs.
Anyways, on the actual topic: I hate chickens. I used to live in a neighborhood where several people owned chickens and those things got everywhere. I'm sure more than a few got run over on accident lol

They aren't very intelligent in my experience so this is too be expected.

Chickens can be bad. Fajita nearly tore Henny Penny's comb in half, this lead to it being rehomed
