Ok, time to deal with this dreaded topic. What’s your opinion on Christmas music? When do you think is an appropriate time to listen to it? I’m ok with Christmas music, there’s a few I like, most I can accept, but there’s some I just can’t stand (cough the ones about romance cough). Unpopular opinion: “All I want for Christmas is you” by Mariah Carey is the worst Christmas song, because of the sheer amount of times I hear that dreaded song. I don’t understand the trend of romantic Christmas songs. These end up being my least favorite songs, because I just don’t understand the trend... It also grinds my gears when I hear Christmas music too early. It was the week before Thanksgiving this year when a radio station I was listening to said that they would start playing Christmas music later that day. By the time it’s actually Christmas, you get sick and tired of hearing the same songs over and over again. Maybe that’s just me, maybe not. (Oh, I never said my favorite Christmas song. It’s carol of the bells, the Trans Siberian Orchestra one.)
It's the thing I dread most - the second November 30 is over, everything is going "IT'S CHRISTMAS" at the top of its lungs. It's even worse when you're in choir - one of our tests is to "learn a Christmas/winter song". I understand it's December, but Christmas music takes up so small an amount of the music in the world, and Christmas music that people actually know takes up even less. In public? I understand the appeal, but there's a time and place for everything, but 24/7 literally everywhere ain't it. Keep it to your concerts, stop blasting it at 8am in the morning while I'm trying to get a coffee. Looking at you, school. I don't think disliking AIWFCIY is an unpopular opinion - if anything, 99% of people I've met loathe it. (The best version is the one by Toad Sings.) I dislike romantic music in general, so most "romantic Christmas" songs get on my nerves before the first loop ends. I'm gonna add on to that "worst Christmas song" argument. by saying I can't stand "Mistletoe" (Justin Bieber). To me, it's like AIWFCIY but without the memeable appeal or upbeatness. At least with AIFWCIY you can change the last word to something else for easy jokes and other stupid laughs.
@RadEmpoleon I always imagine Mariah Carey rising from a deep slumber during Christmastime because it's the only time she becomes relevant again due to "All I Want For Christmas Is You." Like you, I don't enjoy the romantic Christmas songs. I kind of like the ones about the season in general? But my workplace has been playing Christmas music since the day after Thanksgiving, and I've begun to hate it all. There's no originality with Christmas songs anymore. Its just 500 different artists putting their own "spin" on the same 5 Christmas songs. Each year some popular artist releases a Christmas album and there's never a new seasonal tune on it. I don't need another remake of a "classic"!! I think my all-time least favorite song is "Santa Baby." It's just.. I dunno.
My least favorite part of Christmas. Have you heard the little carol town house things in stores? When grouped together they play a dozen different Christmas tunes at once and it makes me feel feelings I didn’t know I had My least favorite song is “Christmas in the sand“, not sure who sings it though.... meanwhile “merry Christmas from the family” is a hilarious song lol
My family starts listening to Christmas music really early, like, a few days after Halloween early. I actually don't mind it so much, because we have a decent variety, so it doesn't feel like we're just listening to the same dozen songs over and over again. One of my favorite songs to listen to is 'White Christmas Hymnal' sung by Pentatonix. As for Christmas songs that I don't like, I'm not a huge fan of, I really don't like 'Last Christmas' or 'My Favorite Things'. As songs, they're just fine, but neither of them is especially Christmasy, so I'm not too happy that they're associated with Christmas.
I dislike Christmas songs in general. Thankfully I haven't had the displeasure of listening to them a thousand times over, but it still doesn't dwindle my discontent for them. They are the same music each and every year and I hate repetition above all other things. I don't actually know any of the songs by title and to be honest, I don't want to. I'm perfectly content just listening to my own music while the speakers are blaring Christmas songs.
I'm a grinch irl I don't even like Christmas let alone Christmas music, it drives me insane. Though of course there' many that DO like it so I don't make a fuss.
That is just a big mood, I also compare myself to the Grinch because I cannot stand most Christmas music and get annoyed with the whole thing after a while.
I used to like Christmas music, but now it's just annoying. I think the worst part is that there are basically just a handful of different songs that get covered over and over again instead of there actually being a wide variety of Christmas songs. Plus the fact that it all just gets played everywhere incessantly as if nothing else exists. And if it gets this annoying for me, someone who actually celebrates Christmas, then I can only imagine how bad it must get for the many people out there who don't celebrate that specific holiday.
Yay Christmas! As one of the two only Catholic countries in Asia it is a big thing; don't say November is too early 'cuz we start celebrating it as early as August or September! My favorite English Christmas songs are "Oh Come, All Ye Faithful", "What Child is This" and "Feliz Navidad", while my favorite Filipino ones (that are very nice; you should listen to them if you want a change of music) are "Kumukutikutitap" and "Ang Pasko ay Sumapit"~ (Oh and the annual Christmas songs ABS-CBN produces are also quite nice~)
