Let's be honest; if you chat with me on skype at all I've been throwing this stuff at you for a few weeks now.

SO, Christmas Music; where tastes tend to do a complete 180 from whatever you normally listen to. What're your favorites? What songs do you not like? Do you not even like Christmas music? ( :()

To get negativizing out of the way first; a few things I don't like about some Christmas music.

1: Depressing songs. I can get songs that make you tear up or the like, but...okay; Blue Christmas, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Please Come Home for Christmas, etc. Dammit I like to be happy :(

2: Notebending. I'm looking at you, Glee cast. Please, stop trying to hit half a dozen different notes per word, and don't put those "huwaa-aa-ooo-oowah" noises in between your actual vocals. It's obnoxious.

3: Songs where the singer ends up flirting with Santa. No. He's many decades your senior, he's married already, and...he's Santa Claus. You don't sing about your escapades with the jolly man like that.

4: "Last Christmas". Look, if you're singing about unhappy events of the previous Christmas and how you're totally going to spite the jerk who cheated on you a year ago by reminding him about it and telling him how you're going to get with someone better this year...you have issues.

OKAY, that's the unhappy stuff. Happy things now. Firstly, anyone who hasn't heard "A Christmas Together" by John Denver and the Muppets needs to listen to it now. It's one of, if not the best Christmas album ever. Yes, I'm saying I rank it above Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" (which is also good). Deal with that :)

Admittedly I may be a bit of a fanatic with this stuff. My family's got....I think now roughly three dozen Christmas CDs alone.

So...top five favorite Christmas songs then (or go for ten if you go nuts for this stuff every year :) )

    1: (See above actually)
2: Go Tell it on the Mountain - Harry Simeone Chorale
3: What Child is This - Johnny Mathis
4: No Place Like Home For the Holidays - Perry Como
5: Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy - Bing Crosby & David Bowie
    6: O What a Merry Christmas Day - (From Mickey's Christmas Carol)
7: What Child is This? - TSO
8: Little Saint Nick - Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem
9: Somewhere In My Memory - John Williams
10: 12 Days of Christmas - Straight No Chaser

There...I managed to hold off posting this thread until after LV put up its Christmas skin.

I pretty much agree with the same type of Christmas songs you don't like either. And it's true that my music taste really does change dramatically for christmas songs haha I'd pretty much never listen to these artists EVER but I just love the christmas songs they sing :D Also, some of the songs are ones I listened to when I was a kid and every year it's like a tradition to just listen to them. So some are pretty older than others but here's some of my favorites:

    - Mariah Carey - All i want for christmas
    - Christmas Album - Celtic Woman
    - Hanson - What Christmas means to me
    - Faith Hill - Where are you Christmas
    - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
    - lots of different instrumentals :D

I like pretty much all the music which comes on the radio. It's a really nice time of the year, and not ALL of the songs are about twerking, being in love with somebody or any kind of shit like that. It's a good time for music.

For me, I guess it would have to be:

Heat Miser - Thousand Foot Krutch
Carol of the Bells - August Burns Red
    O Come, O Come Emmanuel - ABR
This Time of Year - Project 86
    White Christmas - Bing Crosby

Yes, I know 4 of those songs I listed have been recorded within 5 years, but I like myself some rock music xD

From the man who brought you classics like 'Rock n Roll McDonalds' and 'Chicken Cow', comes my favorite Christmas song ever.

If I owned a store I would start playing this at the end of October.

See; the local radio station that runs Christmas music here used to be...iffy. It was a lot of modern pop stars singing about lost Christmas romance or attempting to cover an older song in a somewhat whiny/wavery voice.
I think it shifted considerably after Michael Buble and Straight No Chaser took off, and now the station runs those two, plus TSO, and a lot of the older artists (Williams, Lawrence, Crosby, Como, etc.)

I second "Oh, What a Merry Christmas Day" (have watched Mickey's Christmas Carol at least once every year since as long as I can remember)

ANYTHING Amy Grant: (her version of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year", just as a taste: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGZ0ygt7joU)

The entire OST of The Muppet Christmas Carol

    anything with a Celtic-y flavor

I don't like corny parody songs (eyes Looney Tunes version of "Blue Christmas"), and the Chipmunks is tolerable one time (and ONLY one time), "Sleigh Ride" is fine the first few times you hear it, but come December 21st, you'll be wanting to throw the radio out the window

    ...Oh man, you have no idea how many people I've encountered who didn't even know there was a Mickey's Christmas Carol ;_;

I've got two CD's of Lovecraftian-based Christmas parodies by the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. Would those be considered corny, or just flat-out nerdy?

I like pretty much anything Trans Siberian Orchestra puts out. And Carol of the Bells. It just strikes me as creepy for some reason, and I love it. Otherwise...eh. The usual, I guess. Classic = good, modern pop = bad. I'm not a very interesting person, in that aspect. XD

Why did I get an urge to start singing "All I want for Christmas is You" as soon as I saw the title on this page? :o

Normally, I don't listen to Christmas music, I just find them too boring and slow (to be honest).

One of my favorite metal bands, Twisted Sister, created a Christmas-themed album "A Twisted Christmas" - 10 Christmas songs redone in Twisted Sister-style, so for Christmas-related music it's what I would listen too. "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Heavy Metal Christmas". That song of "O Come All Ye Faithful" has the same music sound as "We're Not Gonna Take It"

Yes, I actually listen to the album on the 24th and 25th of December. T.S. made Christmas songs more fast paced and exciting to hear.

I feel like I'm the only person who celebrates Christmas who doesn't know a single Christmas song, other than the super famous ones like "Jingle Bells". :| If you couldn't tell already, I'm not really fond of holiday music.

I really only like 2 Christmas songs but I think the others are ok too.

    Carol of the Bells- Pentatonix
J-I-N-G-L-E Bells- Frank Sinatra (Oh Yah!)

Anyways, I find that Christmas music sometimes brings up my spirit! I have no clue why, just some songs have a positive sound I guess....I really have no clue :s
