Her soul was the color of blood.

The sight of it nearly sent him reeling. In all his years of knowing the gift he possessed he had never seen a soul that looked as sick as hers.

"You saw." She wasn't looking at him. Her gaze had long since strayed to the ground.

"I did." He hadn't meant to see into her soul, into her being. She did anything she could to avoid him. They barely knew each other aside from a select few classes. It was like she knew. She had not meant to look up when she ran into him, she had not realized it was him until it was too late.

The girl was silent for a moment. "You are the most beautiful gold color," she finally offered quietly. The comment caught him off guard, but not because of it itself but what it implied. Not only did she know, she herself shared the vision.
He wasn't sure how to respond. "Yours is - yours is nice too-"

    "Don't lie."

He stared at her for a moment before closing his mouth. She kicked at a pebble on the street, eyes trained on the ground. "What's your favorite color?" she asked. It was not an unusual question, but he knew there was an underlying meaning.

His answer was different than what he normally would say. "Sky blue. It's very clear and calming." He did not tell her it was the color his brother's soul had been. "Yours?"

Her own answer sounded immediately, as if she had been expecting his comeback. "Don't have one."

"You don't?" His next remark was hesitant. "Too many to choose from?"
Her expression turned wistful. "If only that was the case. Though," she let out a long sigh, "if I had to choose? I'd say gold."

Gold. He raised an eyebrow. That was the color she had said his was. The girl began to walk away. "Wait. Surely you've seen better?"

She didn't say anything, she didn't even pause or turn back around. He stayed rooted to his spot and watched her trudge up the street and disappear into a house on the corner. Her silence was his answer.
He sought her out the next day. She intrigued him, the girl with the sight. When he saw her in the hallway he attempted to stop her. "Hold on," but when he reached out to her she flinched. He froze at the action, and it was enough of a pause to allow her to slip away.

The day after, he was determined to talk to her. In the same hallway he found her, closing her locker with textbooks tucked under her arms. Their gazes met briefly, his widening when he saw the purple and blue around her right eye.

"Golden as always," she murmured, breaking their eye contact and continuing on her way.

"You're the same too," he managed to get out. The crowd swallowed her shortly after.

She didn't tell him of the indigo that shrouded his heart. He failed to mention the black veins that festered within her.

    But they knew.

I love it! It's got a really nice way of conveying emotions, and a pretty dark background to it. It's great! I'm glad you posted it! :D

I'm glad you finally posted this. :D I think it's really cool with the dark and mysterious edge and the fact that you leave it pretty open to interpretation.
