    Hmm I was thinking, is Pikachu a good card once played in the field of competitive battling? I'm quite new to this so I would appreciate some assistance for this matter.^ - ^;

    So, I went for a pikachu with Lonely Nature... I was thinking of giving Pikachu Volt Tackle and maxing out the Attack at Speed EV's but other than giving him Endure and Grass Knot I have no idea what to set up for the third slot... I cant teach him focus punch ANYMORE since 6th gen so that's out of the question...

    But more importantly! Is it worth it though? Considering Volt Tackle having heavy recoil damage on your Pika it's probably gonna be always a suicide run for that little runt...

    I don't remember exactly, but I think there was something with Pikachu holding a Light Ball and Volt Switch... Or at least the Pikachu-exlusive item and the Pichu line exclusive move...

    I do know that there are tonnes of better replacements for Pikachu, but if you really want to use one, it's possible :D

    Ah well I'm replicating Red's team just for kicks.^^; But yes Volt Switch could be a very good replacement for volt tackle... I can still use Pikachu for scouting/heavy Pokémon KO's I suppose.

    Ps. I already have a lightball. Took me like 134 pika encounters so bleh.; - ;

    Volt Tackle? Well, it hits very hard, (252 Atk Teravolt Zekrom Bolt Strike vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 330-390 (77.8 - 91.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery 252 Atk Light Ball Pikachu Volt Tackle vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 320-378 (75.4 - 89.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery)

    but the recoil ruins the move for me. If you want to make it exactly Red's Pikachu, then you'll need it though.

    I just looked at Pikachu's stats. Not too good, and I'd prefer Raichu, but if you want to use Pikachu I guess we can make it work.

    Pikachu @ Light Ball
    Ability: Lightningrod
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    Timid Nature
    - Thunderbolt
    - Hidden Power [Ice]
    - Nasty Plot
    - Grass Knot

    Pikachu's special moves aren't really that nice, but you got good coverage with that pseudo-BoltBeam combo anyway. I personally think it's better to run a special set on Pikachu so I could make use of the Light Ball. You'd be crazy powerful once you get one Nasty Plot.

    Hmmm... Well, I was trying to utilize the use of Volt tackle, ilthough it may be only useful for 6 on 6. I did a few tests and appearantly Pikachu can be outrun by most Pokémon out there... Heck, even something as sluggish as Slacking outruns it. But still pikachu has a bit of potential out there.^^;

    But regardless I'll keep this on the list.

    I guess it's because Slaking has a base speed of 100 while Pikachu only has 90. I was thinking that Volt Tackle was only really good for Raichu, but I guess it might work for Pikachu too. You can try this set too:

    Pikachu @ Choice Band
    Ability: Lightningrod
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
    Hasty Nature
    - Volt Tackle
    - Extreme Speed
    - Knock Off
    - Grass Knot

    Choice Band increases your attack by 1.5 which is really useful since Pikachu's Attack is really not that good. You can use Extreme Speed to outrun those Pokémon that are faster than you. You might need to switch it out after using it though, since it's not such a good idea to stay locked to Extreme Speed (cuz a Ghost could easily switch in or something). I don't know how well this would work, but it's worth a try.

    Banded Pikachu.

    Hm, I'd keep a Light Ball on it so it can get the needed boost for Grass Knot as well both. I think wuth Choice Band it's a 25% boost which is a +1 in attack wile Light Ball is 50% which is +2 in boost stats.

    Hmm I have to agree with you here, although most pekemon will most likely outrun pikachu it would still benifit a lot from the light ball boost...

    Ultra Ball
    Another option, though it is somewhat gimmic, would be to utilize an Agility + Electro Ball Set. In certain cases Electro Ball can deal more damage than even Volt Tackle or Thunder without recoil or a chance to miss.

    252 Atk Light Ball Pikachu Volt Tackle vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 308-366 (78.1 - 92.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

    252 SpA Light Ball Pikachu Thunder vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro: 480-566 (121.8 - 143.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

    252 SpA Light Ball Pikachu Electro Ball (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro: 524-618 (132.9 - 156.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

    Just a random scenario there but for instance at +2 Speed Electro Ball's power goes up to....

    252 SpA Light Ball Pikachu Electro Ball (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro: 654-770 (165.9 - 195.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

    It could almost kill Slowbro twice O_o

    Choice Band increases Attack by 50%. Light Ball increases Special Attack by 100%. But honestly, I wouldn't use a Light Ball for the sake of doubling Grass Knot when 3/4 of my moveset is made up of Physical Attacks. :P

    EDIT: Oops, I was wrong. My information's outdated, I thought it only raised Special Attack. That was in Gen IV tho xD Now it raises both Attack and Special Attack.

    I like this idea as well.
