Continuity and Consistency Errors

I recently started rewatching the anime from the very beginning, and noticed a few weird continuity errors. I don't remember most of the rest of the series (and didn't watch a large portion of it at all) but I'll probably find more when I get there. Currently about halfway through the Orange Islands episodes now.

Two major ones that stand out to me are the episodes Holiday Hi-Jynx and Snow Way Out. They are just filler episodes, but their placing is just weird. In them Ash has a Charmander and Misty doesn't have Togepi, however in episodes well before that Ash has a Charizard and Misty has Togepi. The next episode following those is back to normal. I don't know what happened there, but its like the episodes are just out of order.

Other stuff I noticed so far is small, like Nidoran female and male colors being swapped when they are side by side in a scene, and an Officer Jenny refers to a Growlithe as Arcanine.

Also I find it odd how some of the early episodes will directly reference real-world places, such as Hollywood California (where Meowth is apparently from), Las Vegas, and a mention of digging to China. As far as I know that may have stopped once they introduced the new regions to the franchise but I still find it weird, the first gen Pokémon games sort of did it too with mentioning the space shuttle. I consider it a consistency error in the grand scheme because Pokémon is intended to take place in its own world with its own regions, and not ours. I guess early on they weren't completely sure on that yet.

Which ones have you noticed?

 

Yeah, the majority seem to be about things being misidentified which would relate to translation problems. However one thing I noticed that seemed very inconsistent had to do with ghost Pokémon and psychic Pokémon, and how they relate to one another. In the first season we had Ash going out of his way to catch some ghost Pokémon to deal with Sabrina, however in one of the Johto episodes we have a town where everybody keeps psychic Pokémon because they live on the outskirts of a forest that is filled with ghosts, and psychic Pokémon will protect them. I found that weird cause it's not just some Pokémon being called the wrong things, the plots of the episodes in question actually revolve around concepts that are at odds with each other.
