I love how Gary has moved past simple Pokémon battles and in the Diamond and Pearl series he has started to learn how to be a Pokémon researcher. That's great and all, but am I the only that feels like Gary's just becoming a Pokémon researcher because his grandfather's one? It just doesn't seem like a career that suits him. The one alternative that I can think of, and I think it would be pretty darn cool, was if Gary was a Pokémon ranger. He's become kind towards Pokémon of all kinds, and seems to be aware of their needs. He's capable of becoming friends with many Pokémon, but he strikes me more as the kind of person who only gets truly close to one or two Pokémon, his partner. And the work that we've seen him do in the Diamond and Pearl series seemed to be much more up the alley of a ranger's job. Then again, I might be the only one who sees it.
