    What Is The Creatémon Challenge?

    The Creatémon (that's "Create-A-'Mon") Challenge is a monthly event where you, the wonderful members of Lake Valor, can work on creating your own Pokémon that fits within a certain theme that changes from month to month.

    Rules & Regulations

    • Each entry must include a name, type and visual representation in order to account. Other details may be included but are not required.
    • Any art style can be used for the visual part of the entry.
    • All submissions must contain at least one Fakemon or alternate form created specifically for the event. Evolutions/pre-evolutions/alternate forms of official Pokémon will be accepted unless stated otherwise in the monthly them. Evolutions, etc. of pre-existing fakemon that you created may be included in an entry as long as you add at least one new form for the event, which must be specified in your post.
    • Entries may be submitted as individuals or worked on in teams. If you want to work in a group, then one member will submit the entry here, with a list of everyone who worked on it and what they did.
    • All submissions must follow the rules of Lake Valor. No offensive or NSFW content.
    • Absolutely no plagiarism. Any participant caught plagiarizing will be disqualified.
    This Month's Theme: Insects, Bugs & Other Creepy Crawlies

    For this month's challenge, you will be designing a Pokémon based off of an insect, arachnid or anything else that could be considered a bug or the like. There are already a ton of bug Pokémon, so much so that it's one of the eighteen types that Pokémon can have. However, not all bug related Pokémon are actually Bug types (the Trapinch evolution line comes to mind), so don't feel like your 'mon has to be bug type if you don't want it to be.

    Prizes:

    1st Place: 100 pp
    2nd Place: 75 pp
    3rd Place: 50 pp
    Consolation Prize: 10 pp

    All Entries Must Be Submitted by the end of the month. Any posts submitted or edited after that point in time will be disqualified. The voting thread will be opened shortly after that.

    Here's my submission for the month!

    Grawler, the Crawling Pokémon
    Bug/Ghost

    Dex Entry:
    There are stories surrounding the Grawlers and their malicious nature. They stalk the forests at night, searching the woods for any prey they can get their hands on. It is said that once you feel the prickling cold feeling on your back then it is already too late, as the Grawler chokes out its victims before feasting on its flesh. Spotting its low glowing markings would do you no good either, as the Grawler can easily phase through the trees in its way to make sure you don't get away.

    Pokémon: Spiders, Twig Spiders, Scorpions, The feeling of something crawling on you, hands, Skeleton hands

    The moment I saw the prompt, I knew exactly which creepy crawly to use as inspiration.

    Typing: Bug/Dark
    Pokédex entry: This Pokémon is very weak and vulnerable. Tired of being picked on, it burried itself in stray leaves and fur to make itself look larger and more intimidating.

    Hage, the mage Pokémon.
    Evolves from Hagillar when its Attack reaches a high enough level.
    Typing: Bug/Dark
    Pokédex entry: This Pokémon constantly puffs itself up and tries to get stronger. It is not content as long as it thinks that there's someone out there bigger and stronger than it.

    The inspiration, especially for Hagillar, is the hag moth, or more specifically the hag moth caterpillar. If you don't know what that eldritch nightmare looks like, look it up. It's terrifying.

    Unfortunate my favorite bug is already a Pokémon, so I had to dig into weirder choices.

    spruvla are born with a large slice of their favorite wood around their face. As they get older they consume it, when it’s gone, they are ready to evolve.

    Dendreetle have proven to be very good at adapting to new terrains and are considered an invasive species in nearly every biome they can be found in. Uncontrolled populations can have series impacts on their forests.
