The old man and machop in Vermillion city are ghosts. They died along with many others in the cursed and later canceled Tower Relocation Program put into action by Team Rocket. Giovanni had plans for the original Lavander Tower to be made into a radio tower run by TR, but, being a very supersticious man, did not want to upset the spirits, so he intended to move them to a new tower. When his plans were torn apart, and by a 10 year old boy no less, he took it as a sign and canceled the project. The plan was later revived by the remaining TR members afew years later, with the intention of using the tower to contact their absent leader.

Related to this, Fuji was once a TR scientist on the mewtwo project, and had moved afterward to live out his golden years in peace. Noone would suspect sweet old Mr. Fuji to be a TR member afterall. He, infact, wasnt captured as he leads you to believe, but instead was selling the tower to TR for their project. This explains how the tower that was so important to that town only acouple years prior is now a radio tower.

It sort of does, yeah, I made a thread about urban legends related to the franchise as a whole, but it's been buried to page 2 and this is somewhat different as it relates only to things from the games. To that end I'll re-post the Gary's Raticate story. Not that creepy I suppose but a little dark for Pokémon.

"Some say the universe was shaped by something born from an Egg... A man I met long ago told me that." - Psychic Trainer, PokeCenter in Survival Area

What do you think this means? I saw it just now and I found it pretty interesting.

It's probably referring to the Arceus mythology in Sinnoh, maybe a slightly deviated version. Creation myths and folklore in the real world get deviated and have alternate versions depending on who you ask.

There are so many of these theories, but in order to prevent them from becoming concrete the game just adds 'some say' to the beginning of them. Sooner or later we'll be talking about The Stig.

The egg myth goes, as far as I remember, as follows. Arceus was born from an egg in an empty world, and shaped the universe with its thousand arms.
Granted there are then stories about other Legendary Pokémon that made entire continents for some reason. Palkia and Dialga I think formed Sinnoh, depending on what game you play, Groudon and Kyogre made Hoenn, and Zekrom and Reshiram made Unova. Johto and Kanto I think just existed on their own.

I've been told that listening to the original Lavender Town music from the Japanese first games (Red/Green) had high-pitched pings that could cause nausea and even suicide.

If that ain't creepy, then I don't know what is.

Ditto = Failed Mewtwo attempts. Why, you ask? Here's a few reasons:
-Both Ditto and Mew can learn Transform
-Ditto and Mew have a similar coloration
-Ditto and Mew have an identical Shiny coloration (both are blue)
-Both have perfectly even stat distribution (albeit Mew's is higher)

CREEPYPASTA! I have found my home! *plops*.

Anyway, I wrote one based on the unusable doors in Silver/Gold/Crystal. Mainly the one in the Lavender Radio Tower. You can read it here: http://theshadowrider123.deviantart.com/art/Silver-Stairs-Creepypasta-375047388

It was inspired by how I actually tried going through it with the "Walk Through Walls" Gameshark code. When I went up to the stairs, it pushed me back down, which I thought was really weird. I also thought it was weird that they would put that door there at all if you can't go through it. I was like "Hmm... this would make a perfect conspiracy..." So I wrote a scenario for it.

I have my own thoughts about the various myths of the world and how they tie together:

Arceus created the universe as well as the Lake Trio and Dragon Trio. He was said to have created Sinnoh while Dialga was given control of Time and Palkia was given Space. Giratina was banished to the Reverse World for violence and lives out its lonely existence upholding the real world. The Lake Trio are the avatars of Emotions, Willpower, and Knowledge.

Since Arceus created everything, it makes sense to me that he created Kyogre and Groudon, who then created the land and sea, along with Rayquaza to govern the sky and to keep the other two of its trio in line. Mew was created with the DNA of every Pokémon (sans the created ones) in its cells, which is why it can learn any move. The original Dragon that would later split into Zekrom and Reshiram represents the balance of Truth and Ideals because both are equal concepts and that everyone's ideals are their own truths. Kyurem is trickier to fit in since there are conflicting stories with it: it's either the body of the original Dragon that split into the other two or it came from outer space on a meteor. Perhaps both?

Since Kanto doesn't have a myth (since we're talking about a region from the 90's when Pokémon was starting to take off) and Johto's only myth deals with Ho-oh and Lugia, I think Groudon created all the regions. Unova was said to have been destroyed by Zekrom and Reshiram but I don't think they created it.

There are four Regis. Regirock, Registeel, Regice, and Regigigas. One thing they all have in common is a weakness to Fighting.
The braille in the Sealed Chamber in R/S/E says some community sealed away a Pokémon. They feared it. In japanese, the "Dark type", the only weakness to fighting that isn't a part of the Regis, is called "Evil" type. People obviously fear evil.
So, my theory is that there is one more Regi, a Dark type, sealed away somewhere, trying to break free.

I think my favorite creepy fan theory is the one about Giratina being the devil. In the Origin form it has six ribs, six wings, and six spikes. In the Reincarnate form [I think that's what it's called] it has six spikes on it's wings, six legs, and six ribs. That makes 666 on each form. It's species name and many of the Poke'Dex entries also seem to point in this direction since it says that Giratina was banished to the reverse world because of a rebellion it started. I don't know much about Christianity, but that sounds a lot like the reason why the devil was banished to hell, to me anyway.

I read Giratina was banished for violence, not a rebellion. He was making a mess of things so Arceus banished him to the Reverse World.

Maybe it was a violent rebellion.

Pure, unadulterated violence seems more Giratina's style. I can't think of a reason he'd possibly have to rebel against Arceus. Unless he wanted to rule time or space and was mad when Dialga and Palkia got them instead but I doubt it. Those two were created specifically to rule time and space and I think Giratina would know that. I think Arceus just wanted him out of the way after doing something terrible.

I know. When I said it was violent rebellion it was mostly a joke with the minor possibility in it.
I'm actually curious about what Giratina's job would have been... Dialga got time, and Palkia got space, but I can hardly even think of anything that Giratina could have gotten.

Giratina is anti-matter. That's still his job even in the Reverse World.

That's not really a job though. It's clear to me that he guards it, I think, but anti-matter itself isn't a job. I guess Time and Space aren't either...

Talking about Giratina, Dialga, and Palkia is the hardest thing to phrase.

The Dragon Trio controls their particular element which pretty much what their jobs are. Giratina's job is to uphold the world of matter with the Reverse World (antimatter and reverse physics). Dialga controls Time and his job, I guess, has something to do with keeping time flowing as it should. Palkia controls Space and I guess his job would be keeping space in order.

I think it's a bit tricky to think about when you consider that time, space, and antimatter are intangible. Time itself is a concept that's measured with clocks and other time-keeping devices, to say nothing of the sun and moon. We occupy space and when matter comes into contact with antimatter, it becomes energy.
