We're always looking forward, and wishing for our old favourite games to be remastered. But what modern games would you like to see demastered so that they have a more retro style? Do you think they'd be more fun to play this way?
I'm one of the few P´people on this planet who would like to play Pokémon without 3D models. I want my good old pixelart back. Gamefreak got pretty lazy since XY. In LGPE they are still using the same models as in XY (just more high-quality). When they still used Pixelart, every Pokémon got a new sprite in every game. And Pixelart looks more appealing to me than 3D.
Aside from nostalgia, I don't think there's much point to it. I would have fun with playing Mega Man X4-5 with SNES graphics and music, but I wouldn't actively seek it out or put money into its kickstarter. Same with making Borderlands 3 look and feel like a N64 game (if they were even considering that). I'll say that generally, the art of video game making has improved since it started (maybe peaking 5-10 years ago before mostly slipping again in the present). Or could you imagine if Smash 6 had genuine N64-quality models and effects? Sure, you say now that it would be great, but go look at the gameplay again. Music, on the other hand, I'll always appreciate 8 and 16 bit music. That is a particular artistic choice similar to choosing pixel art over 3D, and artistic choices are always subjective and individually judged. I just want my demasters to have value aside from nostalgia.
The novelty of playing iconic modern games with a retro aesthetic is pretty neat, but I think it should only be a setting. In Dragon Quest 11 for example, you can switch between full HD graphics and 16 bit graphics at any time. While purely cosmetic, it allowed the player to view the game in two drastically different ways.
