A lot of Gen wunners always praise the older games as the best, but what faults can you find?

    - No abilities or natures until R/S/E
    - Poor Graphics
    - Weird stats (Like I swear there was Stamina as a stat lol)
    - Not enough Pokémon
    - Limited communication with other players

For Gen I anyway, terrible item system. It's ONE list that is limited to like 30 that everything goes into. It's a mess. Also, TMs are not described at all. In order to see what a TM actually is, you have to boot it up. Otherwise it's just TM(number) in the shitty little item list. Most of the things listed I don't mind much really, although no running shoes in the first two gens made moving around before you got the bike slow as balls, that was annoying.

Gen 1: Crappy graphics, no running, TMs annoying and pointless, No Wifi
Gen 2: Sub par plot, no running, No Wifi
    Gen 3: Lackluster bad guys
Gen 4: (I actually liked the Gen 4 plot) No moving sprites (I figured they could have done it by then)
Gen 5: No interaction with 3DS FC List (Hopefully soon to be fixed)

In Gen I, not being able to automatically use the HMs, and having to go to the Pokémon screen to do it. What Doima said about the items. TMs weren't an issue since I've always been like SUPER conservative with TMs. Gen V changed that a lot. The graphics were bad, yeah, but it's not like you could expect much more. I like the music.

Now, Second Generation juiced all it could from the GBC in my opinion. And the plot was way better than Gen. 1's, heck, it was better than Gen. IV's plot to me. The Pokémon added weren't original Pokémon redone like in all other generations (Pidgey= Taillow, Starly, Pidove. Rattata: Zigzagoon, Bidoof, Patrat... Etc.) and it introduced the time system. I don't know, I just really like it.

The Third generation was pretty cool. It completely redid a lot of things, better. I wish it had the time of the day system. It also started the fad of having a lot more legendary Pokémon than before, which I don't like so much.

The R/B/Y games were my favorite until HG/SS came out. I wasn't a fan of gen 3/4 so r/b/y were my favs for a long time. But yeah, there is definitely things that just do not come close to comparing to what BW2 has now and such.

    1. The graphics were terrible; they didn't have animated movement or anything like that. I really do like the animated movement throughout the battles, I was really glad to see this feature ^^

    2. There was limited extras in the game compared to what there is now. Like now there's so many other things to do to keep you busy throughout the game, whether you like it or not, they are still available to you. (PWT, PokeStar Studios, etc)

    3. Some say they enjoy having a less amount of Pokémon but it's makes it more fun and exciting to have more of a challenge to catch/see a lot more.

    4. I can't yet use the wifi additions to the games but really I'm glad to see more wifi additions and I can't wait to try them for myself XD

    5. Just overall there's a lot more that the newer games offer. Especially in BW and BW2. Character wise and story wise as well.

Well, the graphics didn't bother me too much for the first generation due to it being on the GB and GBC. XD

    But what did bother me was;

    Gen 1
    - â„¢s weren't described.
    - Lack of friends playing Pokémon, so I had to rely on my sister to get Pokémon I didn't have on her game lol.
    - EXP share sucked >:C

    Gen 2
    - â„¢s still weren't described. (Thank goodness for that booklet I had. Told me the â„¢s)
    - No running
    - NO GOOD GAMBLING GAMES! No slot machines... >n< (HG/SG)

They were described in Gen 2 while in the bag, at least in Crystal version. I just verified it. It lists them by number and shows the name.

I don't really understand how they managed to make animated sprites on Crystal for the GBC but not in Ruby/Sapphire for GBA lol

Also i'm a really big fan of deep plot lines and, even though it was more about gameplay back then, the lack of a good storyline kind of made R/B/Y so much less fun to play.

Back then, it was all about "Gotta catch 'em all!". Now, the game's are so sophisticated that a plot is necessary, and you really can't "catch 'em all".

Graphics were pretty poor but the gameboy couldn't really do much. It did get better in third generation. I didn't like how you couldn't re-battle people. There was a lack of good plot line. Once you had completed the story, not much was left to do. Lack of girl player until Crystal.

the thing I hated about the Earlyer Gen's is the NPC's they Spam Pokémon Moves Like Recover to Heal HP or Minaturize To Raise Evade. Not a Complete Fair Fight

one thing i remember hating about gen 1 was the tiny bag and how you had to keep running to the pc since you couldn't pick up more items. also that there was no organization there at all.

I almost forgot about that. It was pretty annoying that you had 1 bag to carry everything actually. The new bag system is more organized and allows us to have a ton more items. (even now I have a million items in my bw2 bag) I couldn't imagine sorting through everything the way it was in gen 1 xD

Oh god, the bag thing. I always hated how you had to meet a certain requirement of Pokémon to get certain items, like the EXP Share. (Or as it used to be, the EXP all)

Let's not forget how the boxes don't change automatically in R/B/Y. You just encoutered an awesome Pokémon and wanted to catch it when suddenly "THE BOX IS FULL YOU NEED TO CHANGE IT"

Yeah! That sucked. It was also that way in the second gen games I think, but Bill called you when it was about to get full, so that was a big help :P

Gen II did introduce pockets, but bags weren't infinite until generation IV!
