How much does your Pokémon's gender matter to you? Do you catch/breed Pokémon with a gender that you think matches their appearance, or is it totally negligible to you?

I know some people who catch exclusively male or female Pokémon, perhaps you're one of those? Discuss!

I really don't care, as long as you are the Pokémon that I'm looking for. I know that for a while, my brother would only catch male Pokémon until he realized that attract was a thing and then he didn't care.

The only time I care about gender is if there's a noticeable difference between the genders, especially if it affects their movepool or evolution. Other than that, I'll usually go for whatever I find first.

Not really. For an artist such as myself, being able to draw Pokémon designs of any gender is half the fun.

Not often. In the instance of the Nidorans, I like Nidoking's stat spread better, so I tend to go for him over Nidoqueen. Also, a male Gardevoir seems a bit odd, so unless I'm looking for a Gallade I prioritize female Ralts. Other than that, I'm fairly neutral.

I often stick to female vulpix and male lillipup/growlithe (I name vulpix after a female cat I lost, and male lillipup/growlithe after a male dog I lost)
    But otherwise, no.

I usually keep the first of any Pokémon that appears wild or hatches with my desired traits. The biggest thing to me is if the nickname I have in mind will clash: for instance I wanted to name my Pyroar "Sarabi", and that's definitely a girl name (though I suppose I could have named one Mufasa instead). Or I like to name my Staraptor "Captain" after Captain Falcon. Since CF is a boy, it would be kind of awkward to name a girl Starly after him.

There was a similar situation for me. Mine would let me look through his Ruby version sometimes, and I eventually noticed that all of the Pokémon that were in his party at any given time were all male. It's a good thing he didn't try that in Johto, or else Whitney and all her attracting would have absolutely wrecked him!

I don't really care about the gender most of the time. Sometimes I'll have an idea for a specific name for a Pokémon of one gender and I still end up naming them the same thing even if I get the other. There have only been one or two times I can recall being really picky about a Pokémon's gender.

Gender matters only when I want to try a challenge or something. Like, all male, all female, other story character kind of stuff. I'm usually very free-flow with gender, so it's rare that I care.

Most of the time, I really don't care about the gender unless it has a significant role in battles such as Combee-Vespiquen or the Meowstic.

I try to keep it equal...simply because it would be a bit of a struggle if I had an all male team and I happen to come across a fast female Pokémon with attract. Then I'm screwed. Most of the time, I'll have 3 males, 2 females and 1 genderless. Other times I usually have guys outnumber the girls 4-2 although I did get lucky in my X version when I picked Froakie and it turned out to be female. The males in that team were Charizard and Tyrantrum while the females were Greninja, Gogoat, Heliolisk and Seviper.

There's others where gender does influence the Pokémon I want. Obviously feminine Pokémon like Milotic, Primarina, Sylveon and Gothitelle I would prefer to have the female.

Typically, this is something that doesn't matter to me.
But in situations like these, I definitely agree. Male Combee and Male Salandit in particular get big no-no's from me. There are a couple of exceptions as well with appearance. For example, I like the male designs of both Pyroar and Unfezant better than the female counterparts. Another exception I can think of is when I do Wedlockes (it's been quite some time), then the gender really matters for party building.

I’ve always preferred females, not sure why. Generally I don’t care the gender unless it affects evolution (example: Combee) or a preferred gender difference (female Heracross!)

I only care about my Pokémon's gender so far as their nicknaming goes. I use more human nicknames for my Pokémon (hence Gwen)

I don't care all that much...I mean I love having a female chikorita and eevee, because of the names I like to give them and a guy sylveon feels weird somehow unless its shiny.
But in general I don't care all too much.

I only ever care if it's something that affects the Pokémon's evolving ability. A male Kirlia would be somewhat of more worth to me than a female, since I can choose between Gallade and Gardevoir. And male Salandits are not my cup of tea. Other than that, I don't really care.

I don't, I just catch the first one of the species I want, IV's and gender and stuff be damned.
I usually end up even in my team between males and females.

Unless of course the gender prevents evolution. I just gave up on finding female Salandit after a while.

I like all my Pokémon to be female, unless of course it's a male-only species. I'll even go through the effort of SRing my starters.
Not sure why I'm like this though. Maybe because they match my own gender?
Also I vastly prefer the female forms of some Pokémon. Meowstic, Pyroar, Hippowdon, and Milotic are just a few examples.

In Gen 6, the majority of my pokemons are female because they're the ones who pass down the Pokéball in the daycare. In Gen 7, I'm less picky. I have this weird luck of rolling female starters on my first try though XD
