A tad bit surprised we don't have a topic on this yet (from what I can see)!

Do you guys usually keep battle effects on or off when playing Pokémon games? Why?

On the older games I would keep them on unless I was level grinding, then I would turn them off. In X/Y and OR/AS I like the animations so I keep them on all the time.

Always on. They just look so good and honestly the game would feel less...exciting with them off. However I do turn them off if I'm grinding or just really want the battles to go by much faster.

My battle effects are always on. I love watching the move animations especially in the new 3d games. I don't mind to speed near as much as I like to watch the animations.

The game would look boring without them on. I especially love the new game animations, especially Lava Plume, Calm Mind, Brave Bird, and Dragon's Ascent.

Always on. I love to see all the unique animations... especially Draco Meteor.

Always. The animations are so pretty and it really makes the moves so much more special.

Unless I'm SRing or farming the Elite Four then I keep animations on. I love them, they look so cool, even if they do take a while to complete sometimes! :D

Keep them off because it makes it seem like the Pokémon are getting beat up by some supernatural being XD

On, I have not once turned them off because, even though it takes more time, I like looking at all the different animations.

Sometimes on, sometimes off. If I'm trying to quickly train some Pokémon, then I turn it off to speed up battles. Otherwise, I leave them on for the cool animations.

My answer is simple as that...When I am training I turn them off...and when, for example, battle a Gym Leadr or the League...they must to be on :)

Ok, so I didn't even know the battle effects were toggleable so I just turned the effects off and went into a battle. Wow, I don't know what else to say but I've been a huge Pokémon fan and started with the first games. I love seeing the changes for the better and the improvements. I will now turn the effects back on. Heh

My answer is similar to most others here, I absolutely love the animations and prefer keeping them on. However, I'll sometimes turn them off while grinding.

In the 3D games though, the animations are just so gorgeous!

@Blotto, Heh yeah, I remember when I first discovered you could turn them off (not too long ago actually) and it was so strange x.x

I always leave them on by default. Sometimes, when I'm grinding, I might turn them off, but usually I forget. Also, the animations look too great to just turn off!

I pretty much have them on all the time, though when I played my leaf green version ages ago, I played the entire game without ever realizing I had them off, so I managed to grind up a high level team including some of my very first lv100 trained Pokémon. It wasn't until a few years later from playing the game did I realize that I had the setting on off because I played around with the options at the start of the game. Nowadays I only turn them off if I'm grinding or chaining for shinies.
