Do you use/used to use tutorials when creating art? Do you think it helps when trying to get a certain outcome? Have you picked up any tricks from using those art tutorials?

Nope! I did all of my drawings without tutorials. I was mostly on "YOLO" mode when doing my pictures xD

I watched those art shows on TV (Art Attack) which gave me the foundation for rough drafts, especially when I'm trying to draw a full-body of a character with various poses. As for digital, I followed some instructions for making digital graphics like signatures.

But that's about it. I didn't watch anything related to photoshop. (program that I've been using so far for my digital art)

Overall, Tutorials are great for foundations and expansion of ideas. Personally though, experimenting and trying stuff on your own is also great. You find your own style as well as improve your own artistic/creative capabilities.

Oh! I learnt how to edit (for digital art) by using tutorials whereas when it comes to traditional drawings I didn't use any tutorials but I do have reference books that I copy after. But, now that I think about it, I actually do have books on drawing so you could say I do use tutorials when it comes to traditional drawing....

I do! And it really helps if you're checking out a tutorial about an art technique you don't know about.

Most of the art tutorials I go for these days are ones about human anatomy, and one thing I picked up is the structure of the face. When I learnt about it, I thought up of a little trick to simplify the face structure. Yeah, that may not be the most clever way of doing it, but I'm still learning.

I find them very useful, they can teach you a lot of new stuff about art and you can pick up some new tricks from them too!!

I mostly used art tutorials for new programs that I am unaware with because I don't always use my computer for drawing. But otherwise I hardly use them. I mostly taught myself everything and from time to time I take photos of myself to get some ideas for body posture if I think the way im doing it is wrong or weird.

Unless I'm trying to paint something (like water, lightning, etc.) or am looking for a particular brush setting to try, I usually don't use tutorials of any kind. I like trying to experiment with adding my own 'style' to things, and I admit that I sometimes find others' tutorials a little difficult to follow.

I've hardly ever used tutorials if at all. At most I'll use a reference when drawing fanart but as far as tutorials go I'd much rather learn and grow on my own unless I'm really, really struggling. Probably silly of me since tutorials and guides help immensely but it's a habit I picked up ages ago and have since stuck with. v o v

It depends, I have a lot of "how to draw manga" books because I look at them for ideas. When i draw, I'm very visual and art books will provide those pictures.

I used to use a lot of tutorials in the past when learning how to draw. Some are really helpful! I mostly used anatomy tutorials and lighting tutorials and whatnot, I typically stayed away from style tutorials while I was learning the basics. They can be extremely helpful, I do recommend tutorials to any artist willing to better themselves and learn.
