Beginning in the second generation of Pokémon GSC, Pokémon eggs were beginning to be found! When two compatible Pokémon go to the day-care center together, they're able to produce Pokémon eggs.

When you first receive an egg, you'll notice in it's status screen how it's doing. Based on the number of steps it'll take, it'll start to shake more and more until it finally hatches into a basic level 5 Pokémon! Thus, the first egg you receive from Professor Elm's aide will hatch into a basic level 5 Togepi.

Some Pokémon, known as baby Pokémon, are also found by hatching them from an Egg created by their evolved forms. Unlike other species which cannot breed, baby Pokémon evolve into species which can do so. Some of these baby Pokémon include: Pichu, Cleffa, Iggybuff, Smoochum, Tyrogue, Elekid, and Magby!

What do you think of the Pokémon Egg concept? What kinds of memorable Pokémon do you remember hatching from eggs? Do you use the Pokémon that you hatch from eggs on Pokémon teams? Do you think they revolutionized the Pokémon series? Other thoughts?

I don't want to imagine how those eggs are formed, but I'm glad they introduced the Pokémon breeding concept. Being able to pass down moves, IVs, natures, it's all so useful, especially for serious players. When I was still super addicted to Pokémon, I would hatch hundreds of eggs every week. Many people would say it's boring but I found it addicting instead. :3

It's a great idea, but only when I look at it from the competitive side of it... Baby Pokémon, although some of them are pretty damn cute, aren't really necessary, and they don't really add anything to the list of Pokémon, other than dex-filling purposes...

Also the Day-Care Man. Holy shit, how ignorant can you get? You literally stand outside, watching your Pokémon all day long, and still you don't know where those eggs came from? Damnit dude >.>

I'm glad eggs and breeding were introduced, especially from a competitive standpoint haha. It's also an interesting mechanic, with how eggs have different hatching rates depending on the species and all.

Eggs are a neat concept to the games for sure. They have been a very important contribution to the world of competitive battling, with many factors to be considered during breeding in order to hatch the perfect battle-ready Pokémon for your army. It is also a way to obtain Pokémon unobtainable by other means (such as Phione and baby Pokémon) for Pokédex-filling purposes, or for shiny-hunting using the Masuda Method, for example.

I love eggs , except when they take absolutely ages to hatch like the first one from the hot springs in ORAS

The Ditto meme was created because of this concept. It forever ruined Ditto. I, like everyone else, still breed though as it's the only way to get some Pokémon to learn certain moves.
