So almost every combat oriented game has this to some degree. You select the equipment based on what you find or afford. To some, they only do it out of necessity. Some won't try anything unless they have the best possible. Others just do it to the best they can without extra work. What are your opinions on this feature? Do you like it when their is just an optimize button? Why or why not?

I personally am the weird person (I say this as I am the only one like this as far as I know) who doesn't go elitist, but genuinely enjoys managing equipment. I enjoy looking to see how to make the most of in game money/resources. When doing Let's Plays I have to constantly remind myself that no one wants to see me manage equipment for 30 minutes. I will even do the math and see what order i should buy equipment in so that i can sell the old to buy more new without coming up short. I didn't used to be like that, but somewhere along the line, I started to like it.

Until I get my proper footing in a game, I generally use what equipment I find while exploring or looting enemies. Once I've got the in-game funds and the materials, I'll craft something more useful for myself. I wouldn't consider myself an elitist, either. I don't think I've ever had the absolute best equipment in any game before haha. I think searching around for the absolute best equipment would suck the fun out of it for me, if that makes sense. I like a challenge, and I feel like with ultra equipment, enemies would fall too easily. Plus, I don't have the patience to hunt down/save up for the best :s I also prefer to craft my own equipment rather than buy it. It's more satisfying to me that way.

I feel you on spending hella time on selecting equipment! I've spent over an hour before trying to pick out the best equipments and such for myself and my party members in Dragon Age: Inquisition. I was so fed up after that omg. I don't like to spend more than like 3 minutes picking out equipment.

I hoard equipment for no real reason other than "I'll need this specific weapon/armor/gadget eventually". I've gotten to the point in Fallout and Skyrim where my primary storage location will eventually take upwards of ten seconds to load any time I add or remove anything in its contents. It's supposed to be instant, but the read-write starts to take forever.

In some games that limit what you can hold on to (which help me with these habits), I prefer versatility over a single elitist thing. I'd rather be able to choose between being 70% good at sneaky stuff and 70% good at dishing out damage whenever I want than being stuck with being 100% good at damage. And generally, I don't buy, only loot. I'll loot every last thing from every last enemy, and I'll sell them all and get filthy stinking rich, but still probably won't ever spend it.

I also hate micromanaging the exact potential of each weapon, just because I want to hoard and use them all. I like easy decisions, clear winners. "Here's a shield that blocks a whole bunch of physical damage but no magic, here's one that blocks magic but no physical. Which do I choose!". So difficult.
