As the question applies: This means a franchise you know of that has been through some ups and downs and when the downs are so bad, it driven you away from the franchise for awhile. Then as time passed by, you think about giving that franchise another chance.

Has this ever happens to you? To me, it personally hasn't happened yet. But I'm curious to know if this does happen to you guys before.

Skylanders is one of those franchises for me. At first, I was skeptical when the first game was revealed, but I tried it anyway for the sake of "It's Spyro. The design is... meh, but it's still Spyro, right? What could go wrong?"

...I enjoyed the game play a little bit, but after a while everything about the first game became methodical and predictable. And the final boss was disappointing. I tried the second game, and it solved the issues the first game had, but once the third came out, I was done. I grew bored of the series and I wasn't going to throw my money away at the toys anymore.

I hear Imaginators will be the last game in the series, with DLC and such. I'm not sure I want to get it, and I likely never will unless someone who has played it knows whether or not I should give it a try one last time. So, yeah.

I've done that a few times, yes. Most of the time I ended up thoroughly disappointed, regretting my decision.

Fire Emblem I did this twice: once with Shadow Dragon and once with Fates. In both cases, that turned out to not be very good at all, though for entirely different reasons; while Shadow Dragon was unplayable, Fates was unpleasant. These two have so thoroughly disenchanted me from the series to the point that if it isn't Fire Emblem 7, 8, or maybe 9, I'm not interested.

Final Fantasy somewhat did this; after not really having much fun with Final Fantasy VI due to the rather sluggish pace of the game, I decided to re-play Final Fantasy V, since it was my first and I had a lot of good memories. I got to right before the Library of the Ancients (which is not only fairly early on, but also my favorite area in the game), and I found that I simply couldn't continue. It wasn't holding my attention anymore. To this day I'm not totally sure why, though I think the real-time fight system may have been a factor. One day I might go play to playing Final Fantasy I on GBA, since that's a more traditional RPG, but that remains to be seen.

Dragon Quest Monsters was another one. I played Joker and loved it, enough to get everything. I played Joker 2 and hated it, because they added more steps to get powerful late-game monsters and skills, and removed methods of level-grinding accessible earlier on the game (and standardly repeatable). This was somewhat mitigated by giving you a grinding area after you beat the 'true final boss', but by then there's no point unless you want to collect everything. This is probably why not a single Dragon Quest Monsters game has made it out of Japan since - despite there being three of them after Joker 2.

I guess WarioWare counts if I mention my experience with DIY. While the appeal of making your own microgames is nice, it only appeals to a select crowd, and the games aren't easily transferrable even amongst people who already have said game. It's not worth it.

Other than that, most every other series I've gotten into, I have stayed with for the most part - or at least not been overtly disappointed by them.

i stopped playing kingdom hearts after kh2 because i couldnt keep up with the needed devices, and i was tired of them releasing remakes and remixes. however, recently ive been replaying the series on roms and emulators and ive fallen in love all over again. i think the series was truely groundbreaking during 1 and 2 in terms of 3d animation, graphics, and textures for the early 2000s. though im not sure if ill play through some of the not so lovely games like the ones for gameboy advance.

Persona. A friend of mine had shown me P3, but its aesthetics turned me off to it and Persona in general. A year or so later he showed me 4, and I fell in love with it. Still don't like P3, but P5 looks awesome and is definitely high on my list.

I want to try The Legend of Zelda again, it didn't sit too well with me when I last played but this was a fair few years back now, I'm missing out at this point haha~
I've fallen out with Assassin's Creed too--I enjoy the early games but the more recent ones aren't appealing quite as much... Maybe if I play through them all in order I'll adapt better? (Any excuse to replay AC1 and forget to play the rest again huhuhu)

I keep going back to World of Warcraft to give it tries, but it's just not a game I can play alone. I need my friend group on it for me to really enjoy it. :(

Metroid. Not to say that's bad. Quite the opposite really!
I just haven't been into it for a number of years, due to other games popping up.
Samus games were so good back in the 90's.

As of lately, Sonic the Hedgehog. I lost interest after Generations because I had found some other games to get into, but I rekindled some of my love for the Genesis/Dreamcast-era games as soon as Sonic Mania came out, and I'm pretty interested in checking out Forces later. Otherwise, it's kind of hard for me to get back into a series once I've dropped it for long enough; I stopped being a Kirby fan after Epic Yarn and haven't really looked back.

I broke up with Final Fantasy because of trying to play 1 again after playing 12 and Tactics WoL. It suddenly occurred to me that, with very little exception, all Final Fantasy games are the same. Your squad goes around the world to collect some kind of things (crystals, summons, people willing to die for your cause) to stop the bad guy from becoming a god and destroying everything. Rarely is there substantial story beyond that to keep it interesting, and even more rarely is the gameplay more in-depth outside of boss battles. Generally just button mash attack, saving MP for when you really really need it (which isn't often) and you can take whatever comes your way.

I might give it a try again, however. I don't have new game consoles, so I'm limited to old games and PC releases. I think that means I'm going to try to grab 6 or the entire 4 collection when I see it for an agreeable price. Otherwise, I'll probably just stick to Ivalice Alliance.

The Mario games for me. The franchise definitely sees some pretty extreme ups and downs. But I'd be willing to give Super Mario Odyssey a try. It looks pretty great! But there are a lot of "flops" in the Mario series.

Mass Effect. The ending of the third game was terrible, but the games overall were pretty good. I haven't heard many good things about the new one, so I haven't bothered. I've been thinking of playing the first three again for a while, but I played them through Origin which is so buggy and laggy and just difficult to deal with in general.

Quite a few. Final Fantasy is a big one for me. Ever since X2, I've found it hard to get back into it. Even now, I find myself leaning more toward the spinoff titles. Though there was also a time when during my last year of elementary school all the way to grade 9, I was going through this 'I hate everything I grew up with' phase, and Pokémon was one of them. Looking back, I think I was mostly just pressured into thinking it sucked because of a lot of my peers saying they were too old for it. (I later found out a good chunk of them were closet Pokémon fans) I decided to rekindle my love of the franchise with Pearl, later gave Ruby a shot and I'm glad I decided to go back to this series.

Gears of War. I rented GOW 3 once from the video store and I hated it. Then I got GOW1 for free via Xbox Live years later and I still hated it. Honestly, I've played better 3rd person shooters.

For me its Star Wars Battlefront. I loved what me and my friends call the "good Battlefront" which is the 2005 Battlefront 2. But the new games that EA has made are an instant turn off for me because they simply aren't battlefront games in my eyes. They aren't as good as the good Battlefront. I have hope for the second one but I'll only buy it if the micro-transactions become cosmetic only. Even then, I don't want to support EA's business practice. I want to love this franchise but the ways things are going, I don't think it will ever get to fly again. I hope I'm wrong.

not sure if these are franchises but i have a switch and an xbox and i rarely play both of them now. i've become a PC gamer now and still play my 3DS.
but before this, i got the switch on my birthday and played with it a lot. i played The legend of zelda and mariokart and all that, but my 3DS was left sitting my room untouched for 3 or 4 months. now its the opposite.

if those arent good enough for franchises, than i'd say i lost interest in the mario franchise. i played a lot of new super mario bros, mariokart, and other mario games, but now i dont.

i also got Star Wars Battlefront and played it a lot, but now i dont play it anymore

I want to see Golden Sun make a comeback. The first two games where some of the best RPGs of their generation, if not ever (especially The Lost Age). Then, years later they finally made a third game and... it was was only mediocre at best. I'd like to see a fourth game that is able to at least on par with the first two.

I don't think this will ever happen, but I am always keeping my ears open for news about it. Golden Sun was and still is my favourite video game, and I would love to see a fourth installment come around.
    Fingers crossed, though.
