Can confirm that hunts never go the way you expect. It only works once, maybe twice. After that, it tends to be dulled.
As much as I'd love a shiny Horsea to cross my path, I know it isn't going to happen.

 

I haven’t found a shiny since the original rush.

 

It actually does work; you just have to be exceptionally crafty about it.
...Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to put myself into that mindset, so I have not had recent success.

 

I am lucky in the actual games for sure. The Catcher isn't as nice.
