Extreme Speed Genesect : Mewtwo's Reawakening Discussion

I'm definitely looking forward to it- Genesect is one of my favorite Pokémon (if that wasn't obvious), and Mewtwo is awesome, as well. I'm interested to see more of their battle, and how Mewtwo holds up against 5 Genesect who have an obvious type advantage. Whatever the outcome is, I'll be sure to watch it! The short with Sylveon looks interesting, too- I wonder if they'll give any hints about its type.

 

Despite me not being a big fan of the new look of Mewtwo or Genesect for that matter; the movie does look pretty cool. It definitely looks action packed and intense. And it's nice to see that they included some of the older Pokémon in a couple of the scenes too so it's not just Gen 5 only, basically. So I'm kinda looking forward to seeing the new movie.

Though at one point when the group of Genesect fired all at once, it made me think of Power Rangers. >>; Only because of the different colors haha. *n00b*

 

I really want to see how the Mewtwo form ties in. That's the main reason why I want to see this movie.

 

I wanna see how this movie will turn out, if the adding of a new forme will be a successful, or will be crappy. It seems like a really good movie so far with the preview, and can't wait to see more.

 

Why Mewtwo has a female voice? It seems that it's not the same Mewtwo than in the first film.

 

I'm still pissed at Mewtwo's new form...but god, this movie looks so cool. Although now I'm more curious, about Sylveon....

 

Is it true that Sylveon will finally be normal type?

 

I don't know about the rest of you but I hope when the movie is dubbed, they get Dan Green to voice him again. Ever since Philip Bartlett died on the operating table, Dan Green was the best, no, the only choice I want voicing of my childhood hero. Mewtwo has always had a special place in my heart since the first movie and when Mewtwo Returns was released with Dan voicing him, I fell in love all over again. Few characters of my favorite franchises are who I would call my hero. Mewtwo's one of the oldest heroes I have. Dan did him justice.

I still don't think he needed a new Forme (face it, he's badass enough as it is without it) but as long as he can change back, I can live with it. All I really want out of the movie, aside from an epic storyline, is Dan coming back to voice him.

 

I wonder how he got the new Forme, and I want to see what kind of explanation for it the movie will bring.

That's the big thing about it for me... Everything else I don't care as much about...

 

I actually came across a theory on the YMMV trope page for the movie and some people actually think that there might be something significant about why Mewtwo is voiced by a woman in the Japanese version: what if the new Forme isn't actually a Forme at all but a new Pokémon disguising herself as Mewtwo?

It makes sense to me. Even though it was officially unveiled as a new Forme, the Pokémon Company could be using it as a Red Herring to make us believe it's the same Mewtwo from before. The theory has me even more excited to see what the truth will be and if Mewtwo is voiced by a woman in the English dub, I can live with it as long as it's a Pokémon in disguise. Mewtwo has always been male to me, what with the masculine voice and the blatantly male pecs. It would come off as odd that he's suddenly female if that theory isn't true.

 

It weirded me out a bit when I heard a woman's voice. I had to rewind just to make sure I heard right. But if what you're saying actually happens...MEWTWO HAS A MATE?!!! Then my next thought was "OMG! THAT HAS TO BE MEW IN DISGUISE!!"

It would be so cool if that happened.

 

I wouldn't go so far as him having a mate. More like a doppelganger he'd know nothing about. I also doubt it's Mew. I know it can disguise itself but it's never been known to talk. I don't think it's going to start now. If anything, it's the new "Forme" that's in disguise as Mewtwo.

When it was first revealed (before it was called a Forme), I had hoped it was the new villainous team's answer to Team Rocket's experiment that created Mewtwo. I thought it seemed more right that the Forme was the failed result to replicate the experiment and create another Mewtwo. I was kind of disappointed when it turned out to be a Forme because Mewtwo honestly doesn't need it. He's badass enough as it is. When I saw this theory floating out the movie's speculation page at TV Tropes, I started thinking that maybe the Pokémon Company is pulling the wool over our eyes and it's actually a new Pokémon like we first assumed. There's gotta be some significance behind why Mewtwo's voiced by a woman in the Japanese version. Long time fans, like me, feel there's something off about that, which led the theory I outlined.

 

Yeah, I agree with you in this, dear. They wouldn't change the voice acting that much, now would they? I always viewed the new form to be a fem version of Mewtwo. XD If that form is a failed experiment by this team...that would be even cooler than Mew disguised as Mewtwo. Still...hearing a woman's voice coming out of Mewtwo is still really weird. It would take a REALLY long time to get used to.

 

I just found out that the Mewtwo that appears in this movie is NOT the same one we know from Mewtwo Strikes Back and Mewtwo Returns. So I no longer have a problem if it's voiced by a woman in the English dub.

 

Wait... What?
I always figured that there was only one Mewtwo since it was made in a lab and in Mewtwo Strikes Back was called "the only survivor" of those experiments. I guess since the Mew = Ditto theory makes so much sense the idea of there being more than one Mewtwo makes sense too, but it will take away from the movie so much if the Mewtwo in it didn't ever know Ash and therefore can't make any memorable mentions about him.

 

Um... yeah... there is only one MewTwo.

 

That was how they made it sound in Mewtwo Strikes Back. I do think it will take away from the overall effect of the film if there's another Mewtwo that's involved, but it still seems more sensible for there to only be one Mewtwo. Where were the others in Mewtwo's Origins? Where are they now? Besides, Unova is based on New York. In the end of Mewtwo Returns it shows Mewtwo standing on a building in a city surrounded by buildings that greatly resemble New York.

 

That and its pretty obvious that something woulda been said by now if there was more than 1 Mewtwo in the movie, the trailers make it obvious he just transforms.

 

It looked to me like we were going to get some sort of explanation on how the same Mewtwo got a second forme, and I greatly hope that is what we'll get. Making another Mewtwo... I don't know. It just doesn't make sense to me at all.
