We all have different preferences when it comes to choosing what anime we want to watch. Naturally, we tend to search for these types of anime when looking for something new to watch, but there are also times when something out of the ordinary can be fun to watch too.

What are your favorite anime genres and why?
Among the anime I've watched and added to my MyAnimeList account, I tend to lean towards Supernatural, Comedy, Drama, and Slice of Life.

Comedy is an easy one, I absolutely love to laugh. Although, I don't usually look for only comedy in an anime, I like it to have other elements as well. But the ones that I have watched that are mainly comedy have made me burst out in tears on multiple occasions.
Supernatural and Slice of Life go hand-in-hand for me. Supernatural because I like it when things that usually would never happen in real life are brought into anime, just because they can be. But also, I love it when an anime has a bit of real life issues in it as well, because a conflict is essential of course - so when I'm able to relate to the main conflict (or a portion of the conflict), I tend to enjoy the anime a lot more. Conflict includes drama sometimes, so I'll just say that's my reason for it as well. :P

I am a sucker for magical girls, fantasy, adventure, and slice of life anime.

Magical girls (the traditional kind, not the Madoka kind) have been my favorite ever since I first watched the old and cheesy English dub of Sailor Moon many many years ago. There's so much variety in transformation sequences and powers--PreCure is another good example of this. But sometimes, I will watch something out of my comfort zone if it involves transformations--this is how I got into Symphogear (and why that series' singing transformation incantations keep popping up again and again in my work)

Fantasy and adventure go together like Ash and Pikachu--I love epic quests, magic spells, and equally epic creatures and clashes between good and evil. Extra points if there is a huge and disverse world--or worlds--to explore.

Slice of life proves that with the right characters, even the most mundane of events can be awesome. (example: Kanamemo)

I will occassionally take in a comedy (Ultra Maniac is one of my favorites, and had me rolling on the floor laughing on a few occassions), and I'm okay with romance in small doses (Sailor Moon does this beautifully--the romance is not the main reason for the story, but it is a driving force.)

I'm trash for romance, horror, music, shounen and shoujo.

Romance because fictional romance just seems so much better than romance in real life, and because it comes in a variety. Also it allows me to ship and I love shipping. Kind of like every take on the typical romance in anime.

Horror because I love scary and gruesome things in anime, especially if it has a plot though. Though watching characters die left and right for no reason is amusing. Corpse Party is a good one, though.

Music because I love music myself, especially the violin, viola and piano respectively. Wish there were more anime with these instruments that had good animation. I really like the music played in this genre.

Shounen and Shoujo because why not. it's pretty mainstream in most anime related-things, anyways. I lean towards the more subtle side of it though; I'm not too fond of the harems in Shounen and whatnot.

I personally love Horror, sci-fi/magic, adventure, and certain slice of life anime.

I've always liked horror games/movies as long as I can remember, so of course i would like anime with the same theme. However, I'm not a fan of jumpscares, so I'm more drawn to the gory side than the "scary' side. (I'm not sure if there is even anime with jumpscares, I'm just assuming there is.) I also like horror because it usually has mystery in it, too.

Of course, I like sci-fi/magic anime, who doesn't. Same goes with adventure. Both usually have a good plot and character development, and they're usually just entertaining to watch in general.

I usually despise "slice of life" anime, but if it relates to me, then I'll probably like it. For example, I really enjoy Hibike! Euphonium because it's about life in marching band, and I'm one of the biggest band geeks you'll ever meet.

I'll basically watch any other genre of anime (like comedy) but I just haven't gotten to it yet. The only genre i refuse to watch is Ecchi or Hentai...

I watch more or less everything: Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Supernatural, Slice-of-Life (though I'm rather picky in that department), Shounen, the occasional Shoujo, Comedies (when done properly), sometimes some Mecha. I may or may not have accidentally wandered into the ecchi section as well, but that's another topic.

Really, the only stuff I don't watch is Magical Girl, Sports, a lot of the short-form stuff, Hetalia exempted, Pokémon (because even if I've heard it's improved lately, I still think that with the exception of the movies (and even some of THOSE) it's gotten very... boring. I won't elaborate on here, it's off topic), the idol stuff, and... That's about it. For some reason though, I'm not much for older anime, with a few exceptions. I think I've just gotten used to the art styles in newer stuff, plus as demographics changed, anime changed, and it tends to be about different stuff now, in my opinion.

Wow, that was longer and a lot more self-absorbed that I expected it to be.

I like childrens' anime, which tend to be comedy, slice-of-life, and fantasy. I like them because they are cute and simple with adorable character designs, and aren't overly mature like lots of other anime. Though Lady Jewelpet is a childrens' anime, it's actually quite deep at times with a compelling plot, making it one of my favorite shows.

The ones I like the most are comedy, fantasy, slice of life, and romance :3
Fantasy animes are really cool to me because they can be really original and have cool stories that you wouldn't normally
Slice of life is great too because it's the opposite of fantasy by showing us real life situations!
But I think I like romantic comedies the best hehe ^^ They're just so kawaii and fun to watch

I mostly like Shounen, game, sports and comedy.
I'm not really into blood and horror, and I still find Shounen really enjoyable. I always love to see what the creators have come up with (storyline, characters, world).
I like game anime because of the tactical aspects (I find it incredible to see how deeply some games are involved in the main character's life, like "you BREATHE that game?") and I like to outsmart the anime by thinking ahead. Game anime are also what teaches me new tactics.
Sports anime, because why not? I think this is a pretty new market, and it's absolutely wonderful to see how they put so much excitement in it. I mean, they got me hooked to a volleyball anime. A VOLLEYBAL ANIME! (also a basketball anime, but that one contains a bit more special moves.) Sports anime are what get me excited for certain sports.
Last but not least, comedy is on my list. That's an easy one: who doesn't like a good laugh?

I love mahou shoujo, slice of life with cute girls... I don't like anything too heavy, so I stick to those. However, I do like anime that aren't those genres, like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Hell Girl and Kaiji.

I like Fantasy/Adventure and all that, but I really like Sci-Fi anime(not mecha, but mecha is good too), and stuff like that. For example, some favorites include:
No Game No Life, K, Hunter X Hunter, Pokémon, FMA, Bakuman, One Punch Man, //too lazy to even remember anymore
Darker thought provoking themes is good too.
Sports anime is sadly good(why), and at this point one of my friends is literally Haikyuu trash. That's all. That is her personality
