Battle Facilities have been around since Gen 2's Trainer Tower iirc even though it doesn't actually have "Battle" in the name, but never really branched out except for Emerald and Gen 4. What are some of your favorites? Battle Tower was mine at first because of Destiny Deoxys, but I think my favorites now are Battle Factory and Battle Arcade.
I LOVED playing in the PWT when I was a kid. So much so that I completely forgot about the Battle Subway lol. I always played triple battles so I could bring everyone on my team. Aside from PWT, I play in the Battle Tree every now and then. EDIT: also forgot to mention, PWT has rental Pokémon that I like to play with as well. Though some of the movesets are... questionable. (The only one I distinctly remember was a Serperior that only knew Leaf Storm. It did not have Contrary, just regular Overgrow.)
I played around with the PWT a lot in Gen 5, but I also really liked the Battle Pike and Battle Factory in Emerald. Battle Factory because I didn't have to prep any mons to take with me so I could just jump in and play without having to think about raising mons for it. Battle Pike was really just because I liked the "What's behind door number....?" thing they had going. I did manage to get to Lucy many times but sadly I wasn't good enough to beat her from what I remember. PWT I loved breeding semi decent mons to use and I loved making mono type teams to test out, the best team I made was an electric team I remember winning with quite a few times.
I liked playing around with rental teams in all facilities that had them. The Battle Palace was interesting but too frustrating, love the look though. My favorite from Gen 3 was the Battle Pike though, little did I know it was a first glimpse at one of my favorite types of games: Roguelikes
In a way PWT is just better Battle Dome. I've always liked the concept, but I've never really made it past any of the gym leader cups that I can remember.
