Of all the 18 types in Pokémon, which one(s) do you think is the best competitively? Is there a certain type combination that you favor? Are there any type combinations you wish existed for the sake of competitive play?

My favorite competitive typing is Grass/Steel, because it is a great defensive typing that makes ferrothorn so hard to knock out. Although it has a huge weakness to fire type moves, its easy to predict when a fire type move is coming your way, while making a useful switch to a Pokémon with flash fire perhaps. As for a competitive typing that doesn't exist yet, I'd like to see a Fairy/Ghost type in the near future. The additional Ghost typing would allow poison type moves to deal normal damage while adding an immunity to normal and fighting type moves, thus making this combination only having weaknesses to ghost and steel type attacks.

Dark/Ghost. One weakness, super-effective or neutral against most other type combos.

Fire/Ground is good too, if you can avoid the Water. Can't be burnt, can't be T-waved. Only other weakness is Ground.

We all need Ghost/Fighting or Ghost-Normal pokes. Ghost-Fighting is currently unresisted, while Ghost-Normal is immune to both Ghost and Fighting. xD

Also, Ghost-Normal has only 1 weakness, being Dark, which means I can spam Knock Off even more. :P

Love ghost personally, especially with the recent boost the type had (along with poison). That being said, I would love more Pokémon to have fairy type, and see more of fairy/dragon combinations (ahem m-dunsparce). Also fairy/fire would be an excellent type to wreak havoc.

Definetely steel! There is not a good team if there is not a steel type or a fight in it!

Well, it used to be Ghost / Poison for the longest time for I don't know what reason, but now it's Steel / Fighting due to Lucario & Cobalion.

I usually find that I can't have a complete team without a Water type. You need something to switch into those Scald attacks, as well as something to dish out an Ice Beam.

Steel with anything proves to be a really good combination (Except when it's paired with rock. Looking at you Aggron). It adds so many resistances to so many common types in many of the metagames. If Excadrill, Heatran, Dialga, and Ferrothorn don't prove this to be true, it don't know what will.

I'll agree while @[member="Spammernoob"] here. A Ghost-Normal would be my favorite if it existed. One weakness, immunity from Ghost and Fighting, resistance to Bug and Poison, and a single weakness. It's a pretty great typing defensively, and offensively I could see an interesting special-attack movepool.

However, of the currently available typings, I'm going to have to go for Fairy-Steel. It has two weaknesses, two immunities, and a whopping nine resistances. Offensively, STAB attacks are super effective against four common offensive types (fighting, dark, dragon, and ice), and one common defensive type (rock). Also I'm a sucker for Mawile and Steel types.
