    Who was/is your favorite rival of his? Why?

    Paul, definitely. He didn't put up with any of the shenanigans of the group and was an extremely powerful Pokémon Trainer in his own right. Aloof, rough around the edges, brusque, he was pretty much the perfect antithesis to Ash.

    Gary is my favorite. He is just a classic, and a really cool character. I like how he is more mature later on. Suits him well.

    I liked Gary. He was the original rival, and I liked how he and Ash knew each other before they started their journey. Paul is good too, but he doesn't compare to how Gary was there at the very beginning.
