Since Generation III, Pokémon have been given an Ability, or a special effect that causes changes during battle, sometimes eve outside of battle. Every Pokémon can have up to 2 Abilities and 1 Hidden Ability, some only have 1 of each and some only have 1 Ability! What's your favourite ability and why? My favourite abilities, generalising them now, are the ones that cause a status effect on contact, like Static, Flame Body or Poison Point. The fact that getting attacked gives you a chance to fight back is great! I also like type changing abilities like Refrigerate, Aerilate and Pixilate; being able to change Normal-type attacks into ones that give the Pokémon a super-power boost is awesome! And finally, abilities that only affect specific sets of moves, like Tough Claws, Iron Fist, Soundproof and Bulletproof are cool, because it allows for fun movesets~
I love the ability Unaware because it just throws all of the opponents buffs down the drain. I like to put it on my Quagsire when I'm battling. I send it out against fire/dragon types and scald/ice beam everything. Because of unaware, it turns my Quagsire in to a monster.
I love Intimidate! I always tried to get a Shinx with Intimidate back in DPP, because I liked the fact that it lowered the Attack stat of the enemy. Nowadays, Intimidate is still one of my favourite abilities (although it can be kinda annoying to see that ability thingie pop up at the start of each battle)
I love abilities like Simple or Contrary that are especially fun to mess around with in hackmons. Raising your stats to insane levels is always fun.
Prankster ! I think Prankster is a bit too much fun on some Pokémon, especially a jingling pair of keys who shall not be named. In all seriousness, you can't not get bad at Prankster, because the feeling you get when someone uses it against you feels so much better when you use it against them.
I personally love the abilities Filter and Tinted Lense. They're not on many Pokémon at all, but the way the effect move damage can lead to great utility! Especially tinted lense, since it lets you get really strong hits on Pokémon that your opponent thought had a good type match-up against you.
Rattled Some move types scare it and boost its Speed stat. Regenerator Restores a little HP when withdrawn from battle. Sap Sipper Boosts the Attack when hit by a Grass-type move. . Telepathy Anticipates an ally's attack and dodges it. I like these abilities. Telepathy being the more useful ability and also Regenerator has its perks too.
Unaware is the best! It's always funny when my opponents think they've won after maxing their stats, only to be surprised at how little damage they do to my Clefable.
I love the Magic bounce ability , The ability to reflect toxic and status/hazards is almost invaluable , also using it in nuzlocks is very helpfull , and it makes ya feel smart when doing a correct play with it.
Prankster is my favorite ability, mostly because of Sableye and Klefki. Being able to go first is really valuable in many situations. Prankster Thunder Wave, for instance, lets you cripple fast attackers before they get the chance to kill you, and Prankster Will-o-Wisp quickly neuters something. It's so trolly .u.
I really like Cheek Pouch so that I can heal fast, but its only with berries. Illuminate is also amazing so that you can catch em all. Really any ability like Overgrow or Torrent is probably my favorite though. Its just so nice having that little bit of power-up.
Magic Bounce. Takes care of those annoying entry hazard Pokémon. Plus, it sends thunder waves and will-o-wisps right back at foes! Prankster gives you priority over status moves how great is that? I love crippling teams with priority Will-O-Wisps and Thunder Waves. Levitate. No effect from hazard spikes and gives immunity to ground moves
Protean is really great because of its versatility, it's a great ability and is very hard to predict. It's also very fun to use, since you get to be creative with your movesets and try out different things that could confuse an opponent. Mega Mew would be a beast if it had Protean, just saying I also like abilities that boost stats in different ways; like Sheer Force that raises the attack power of attacks that have secondary effects by getting rid of the effect. I think it's a nice tradeoff. Huge Power is good for Pokémon with lower attack that could use a boost, and abilities like Filter help with defense. Overall, though, my favorite ability is probably Drought. Since one of my favorite Pokémon is Volcarona, it works very well in the fun and benefits greatly from being paired with my Mega Charizard Y. I hope if Volcarona ever got a Mega, it would get Drought, because it is labeled as the Sun Pokémon.
It has to be a tie between Magic Guard and Regenerator. Magic Guard because you can take Toxic and Will-O-Wisp without any problem at all, the only status that really harms is Attraction/Freeze/Sleep/ and Paralysis, and it also negates the recoil of the Life Orb. Regenerator because this just makes Pokémon more bulky. If a Pokémon with this ability is about to faint I can just switch it out and it probably won't be gone the next time I send it out. I can also switch out sometimes freely thanks to this ability.
I really like Intimidate since it lowers the enemy's attack when the Pokémon enter the field. Static is another one I like even if it is very luck based whenever it activates or not. Protean as well, always getting STAB damage is always nice and is fun playing with a Pokémon that always changes its typed.
The one that stood out most while I was playing Y was Electivire's Motor Drive, I've baited multiple opponents with this ability by first sending a Pokémon weak to electric type then immediately switching
