Are there any animal companions in games that have stuck with you, be they important to the story or purely a 'side-character', perhaps not even interacted with? Is there a reason why you like them? Be sure to give a reason why! Persona 5's Morgana is definitely one that comes to mind, despite being a more complex character beyond the pet element. His quips keep otherwise quite slow moments in the game interesting, not to mention his uses gameplay-wise. I definitely wouldn't be against having a talking cat companion in the real world!
Do pets I create in the sims count For real though, I enjoy having pets in games, it adds a little spec of extra homely in my opinion. I can't think of many games that have pets included so I would have to give it to stardew valley, your dog/cat doesn't do anything, but they make cute whine noises which are adorable.
The dog in Dragon Age is the only useful, non-annoying in-game pet I can think of tbh. I honestly cannot stand talking animals in video games unless the entire game revolves around talking animals; they're universally obnoxious, frustratingly gimmicky, and often have voices pitched high enough to shatter glass. Non-talking animals are rarely playable, it seems.
The Tiny Chao Garden in Sonic Advance 1 and 2. It would get to a point where I would play the main game (or Time Attack) just to get more rings to buy stuff for my Chao. Those games are long behind me now, but I loved those cute little fellows. I'll give Missile (Ghost Trick, not Ace Attorney) an honourable mention as well, for being both entertaining and pretty darn useful.
The polterpup from Luigi's Mansion 2. This thing annoyed me so much at first, but he just grows on you. If I don't see him in a later Mario title, I'll be sorely disappointed.
YES! When I first saw it in the shop (I was in a skype call with friends while I was playing) I shouted something like "OMG IT'S GUMMI" and just randomly named it Gummi on the spot. I was so happy when I found him crawling around in the engine room in ME3 and in the Citadel DLC when someone kind of threatens to kill the hamster after doing a bunch of other horrible things (terrible attempt to avoid spoilers) Shepard was just like "OH NOW YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR! Hang tight, little buddy, and if anyone tries to hurt you, go for the eyes." *Squeak* I'd also say the Crimson Loftwing from Skyward Sword. I wish he was in the game more than just being transportation and being in a few cutscenes though. Or at least, I dunno, had a name?
Dogmeat from Fallout 4, the two of us fought so many Deathclaws together he has found a place in my Hall of Pets. Never had a more useful companion.
Hehe.... Puffles, from Club Penguin. I never take interest in getting pets in video games, and back in my days of CP, that was it. That was when I did, so that's what it was.
The thread is specifically talking about 'pets', so unless you end up forcing your villagers into servitude, I'm going to say 'no'.
Wait, are you telling me that isn't a normal passtime in AC? As for me, I'd say my favorite pet in a video game is Nebby.
I really have no idea, as I've never played an AC game (and don't plan to), and don't know much about AC other than the escapades of a few people I know. I wouldn't consider Nebby a pet, though; it won't stay still, and it dabs disrespectfully at its 'owner'.
Repede from Tales of Vesperia. The dog fights using a dagger and has an eyepatch for crying out loud! What's there not to love?
I didn't have the Tiny Chao Gardens, but the Gardens of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2! I used to go to Knuckles and Rouge's levels to dig up 999 rings (and once in Sonic's Casino stage) to buy a lot of seeds, fruits, and hats. The Tails and Eggman stages were also played alot to gather up Chaos Drives. My Wii is not plugged in these days, but if it was I probably would be tending to my Chao on a wide screen tv almost daily. <3
