From Rock Band to Hatsune Miku, rhythm games have been a well-established genre in the West from the late 90s, and date back to the 70s in Japan. Have you ever played a rhythm game before? Is it a genre that you enjoy, or one that you would prefer to avoid? What would be your dream idea of a rhythm game, in terms of the songs available and the gameplay mechanics?
Guitar Hero was the only rhythm game I ever played, and never did I rock at it. As much as I enjoyed the game and the mechanics it brought, I don't have the hand-eye coordination required to play such a game. And while I would like to see more games, it's not like I'd ever try to play them. I just can't. As for dreams of future ones? Umm... remixes and fusions of songs old and new. I know Beat Saber has some of those, but I want hand-eye ones that don't put you in the world where you have to move around with the game. So, yeah. That's my thought.
I grew up on Dance Dance Revolution (even though I was never in good enough health to get good at it), but my favorite is Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (though FEHeroes' Tap Battle is pretty fun and challenging too, for a mobile game add-on). I want to play P4DAN, though, because I love Persona 4 and the characters in it.
Do mobile games count? Then yes, I've played and still play plenty. Currently I try to keep up with BanG Dream! and Love Live! School idol festival, though I also have Idolmaster Cinderella Girls and Idolmaster Theater Days installed that I log into daily. Used to have a lot more downloaded but couldn't keep up with them all. :droplet: Never played much of the rhythm games for systems, but I do love a lot of DDR tracks!
I used to be very into a select few rhythm games. In 2012 I played over 200 hours of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy on 3DS for a good half year at least. 2015-2016 I was super into playing osu with some online pals... apparently for only 200 hours. I thought it would have been more. Last year I ritualistically played Love Live: School Idol Festival every day until earlier this year when my phone ran out of space for it. Not really into rhythm games anymore these days.
Can’t get enough of them! I love playing Elite Beat Agents, Deemo, and Love Live School Idol Festival.
