Question: what's your favorite Final Fantasy game? Followup question: Who's your favorite playable character in that game? There's a solid 90% chance that you can play as that character in data-plan-breakingly-awesome the Final Fantasy smartphone game that is...

Okay, so here's the gist of it: DFFOO (or FFDOO or whatever) is the single-player and co-op Super Smash Brothers of Final Fantasy, except even more than that! Not only can you play as just about every hero from every game (70 and growing, unlike in the other Dissidia games, which had a total of 2-3 representatives only from each numbered game and slowly expanded), but it's in a style that's a mix of classic Final Fantasy 1-10 combat (turn-based squad combat based on choosing attacks to be executed) and Final Fantasy Dissidia combat (which is based on the Bravery system which is so innovative and intuitive I can't adequately describe it). So that's it: classic Final Fantasy strategy mixed with modern Final Fantasy anti-basic-attack-spam, but it's with just about every playable character ever and with more added every two weeks, even from the obscure entries like FF Tactics and FF Crystal Chronicles.

The game is free (of course, with paid extras like costumes and extra random-draws for equips (all characters are guaranteed access), but it's easy to max a few characters of your choice without ever paying), and if you like Final Fantasy at all then this will almost certainly re-ignite your passion for the series. So go check it out in your smartphone's app center, wait for that maaaassive initial download to complete, and help us close some tortions and find out what the heck that shifty moogle is up to!

As for myself, in the main story I'm fully caught up through the end of Chapter 10 (not spoiling anything here, but I loved their choice of semifinal and final boss for that chapter), which means I've recruited every playable character available in the west and have maxed out experience level for most of them (still grinding crystals and Eidogas daily though). I'm particularly happy that a lot of my favorite characters who aren't the main of their game became accessible here. Ramza of course, and Celes, and Yang, and so many people who make me smile with nostalgia. I admit, I was falling out of Final Fantasy for a bit there before Type-0 stoked the embers and Dissidia Opera Omnia reignited the flame. I like the stories and I love the characters: it was just the overly simple non-boss combat of 1-10 that I disliked.

And by the way, if you do play, you can join me and make the most of my maxed-out Ramza (aka the Mewtwo of Final Fantasy) by looking me up by my friend ID of 759514878 and my username of Zer0. My intro message is even Ramza's most Mewtwo-esque line from his event: "It is neither one's birth nor status that matters. What's important is how you live your life."

Man, such good feels, thanks to Square Enix bringing up the non-main characters for a day in the sun.

Opera Omnia quickly became one of my favorite mobile games almost as soon as it came out (along with Final Fantasy Record Keeper and Kingdom Hearts Union Cross). While it only has a fraction of the playable characters that Record Keeper has, it does a really good job at making everyone stand out from each other and has a more unique feel to it. The story is pretty good to and I really love seeing all the extra cutscenes that have characters interact in interesting ways. I'm also looking forward to finally seeing just what's up with Mog.

Anyway, for anyone interested my ID is 378240569, with the name BZRich64 and a level 50 Lightning as my support character. She's probably one of the best and killing things quickly and easily. Only higher level bosses can stand a chance against her power.

Record Keepers might have more playable characters... for now... but I won't be surprised if Dissidia OO overtakes it eventually, even though it's harder to develop, animate, and compress 3d models than it is sprites. I tried playing Record Keepers for a while, but it was too much of the FF1-10 flavor that I dislike (too simple for me), so I only stuck with it for a week.

Lightning is indeed such a killing machine. It took too long for me to find out that she has that passive that increases her turn rate after Flourish of Steel breaks an enemy, so she can effectively just sweep an entire enemy turn in what would otherwise be like two turns. Really, with a good weapon, a Lightning like yours can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat way too easily (and has helped me, and for that I thank you). I'm afraid she's getting pushed out by Sephiroth, but that hype might fade.

Anyway, I'm conflicted about my Ramza support for that purpose. You call him in for support, he supports two allies and when the third switches back in, they're un-buffed. I may go back to Celes, so I can help people by swooping in and saving them from a magic attack, but I'm not sure if I have enough power gems and armor tokens to max her out. Honestly, if I wasn't already playing DFFOO when Celes was introduced, I would have started then. Ever since Dissidia 012 (my first Dissidia), I was pretty grumpy that Terra got the spotlight instead of Celes. I'm not a fanboy for many characters of any media... but Celes has won me over.

I certainly understand your feelings. Although I do have to point out that Record Keeper currently has 220 playable characters (and growing) compared to the 98 currently available in the Japanese version of Opera Omnia. While OO is slowly closing the gap, RK currently has 124% more characters so it seems unlikely that it will be able to completely catch up. (And neither of them have anything on Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. I'm not even going to try and add all of those characters up.)

220 in Record Keeper, seriously? They must be squeezing out every last named appearance in that. Not that it's a bad thing.

What is a bad thing is the characters that were chosen for the level break. Out of those six characters who are now going up to 60/60, I only had Shantotto up to 50 in crystal levels, with some as low as 20. I'm going to be picking some day this week to use up my cycle keys capitalizing on that double payout from the colored crystal missions. I could do the math if I really wanted to, but I'm thinking it will take at least 3 keys and 90 minutes to get a level 20 fighter up to 50 for the level break.

Also, Terra just got really popular. And as much as I like her, it's another example of my dear Celes getting pushed to the side. The level cap will be broken elsewhere in time, I suppose.

Yeah, Record Keeper gets ridiculous with who gets in. Playable characters, villains and even some important NPCs that have never been playable. The most out-there choice, though, would easily be Gogo. Not the playable character from Final Fantasy VI (though he's in there too) but the bonus boss from Final Fantasy V.

As for the crystal level caps, I don't really care that much. Lighting is actually the only character that I have at crystal level 50 so far and I don't really care about raising anyone higher than that yet. And while I've always liked Terra more than Celes, I can certainly sympathize with you.
