The original thread kinda died out so its time to start this again! In the past few months I've become a total Fire Emblem-aholic. No joke. I went from playing only one of the games in the series to playing 8 (Awakening, FE7, Radiant Dawn, Binding Blade, Sacred Stones, Shadow Dragon, New Mystery of the Emblem, Path of Radiance in that order). I love this series so much its just a ton of fun. So many awesome characters, adventures, strategies, songs etc. My current favorite game is Path of Radiance because I love the whole Laguz race aspect and the story of Path of Radiance + Radiant Dawn is the best and has the coolest and most memorable characters, in my opinion.

I've only ever played Awakening, but that game was enough for me to fall in love with Chrom the series. It grabbed my attention when I played the free demo, then went on to borrow it from a friend, finish the main story twice in one weekend, and be finished with Fire Emblem... for now. I'm thinking of getting one of the new games, because I enjoyed Awakening so much.

I've finished Awakening and done most of FE7, part of Sacred Stones and part of Genealogy of the Holy War. I have to say my favorite is FE4 (Genealogy of the Holy War). I will admit, I'm not very far in it, though.

I played one on GBA and one on DS for maybe an hour each, and moderately liked it. Then I played the demo for Awakening on 3DS and I'm almost speechless in how awesome it looks. I'm a total penny-pincher, so I don't want to shell out 40 USD for it, but once it drops to 30 USD (or a few dollars above), I'll snatch that right up.

Last time I played a turn-based grid strategy game was FF Tactics on PSP, and that was quite a while ago. Maybe Fire Emblem will re-open a door for me.

Genealogy is the next game I'm going to play! I'm pretty exited because I've heard lots of good things about it.

Like AuraKnight, my first introduction to Fire Emblem was the Awakening demo. I liked what I saw so I asked some online friends, and one of them recommended Sacred Stones. Since finishing Sacred Stones I've gone around a bunch of the Fire Emblem series, having finished 7,8,9 and 13, and tried out 6, 10, 11 and 12 for varying amounts. My favorite would be Sacred Stones, with Rekka no Ken in second, because I just can't get enough of that GBA artstyle. I love the soundtrack direction of 9 and 10, though, those are just simply beautiful.

I was initially introduced to Fire Emblem 7 by a friend, who was playing it on his GBA. He allowed me to play it for the first few chapters, and I fell in love with the series immediately. To date Fire Emblem 7 is still my favourite of the titles due to its sprite and art style. FE8 (The Sacred Stones) is also well-beloved for similar reasons, though due to cartridge issues, I was only able to 100% FE8. (In the case of FE7, it would have problems saving the data after a few years and I would lose almost all of my progress. Weirder still, sometimes it would keep certain things but lose others.)

I no longer possess FE8 (I still have FE7, but don't play it because of the above), but the other FE game I possess is FE13, Awakening. I have played FE11 (Shadow Dragon) and found it thoroughly unappealing, and was disappointed at there not being any FE12 (New Mystery of the Emblem) localisations outside of Japan, as I was enthralled by the My Unit mechanic. Awakening is rather nice (and my first true exposure to the My Unit system), and while it cannot compare to the sprite style of the GBA games, it is nonetheless an extremely solid game overall, and has a tremendous amount to offer. As for when FE14 (Fates) will be released, I'm quite looking forward to it, as it appears to have further refined the Awakening engine, even enough to give vastly different experiences and fix balance issues. Kudos to Intelligent Systems.

Plus, the protagonist is a dragon, so... Can you guess why I'm looking forward to it?

I can't believe I haven't been on this game until now. I just picked up Awakening about a month ago.... me being the competitive player I am, I automatically went straight into Classic Lunatic mode.

If I were to tell you I've been playing this game through without soft resetting to save my characters, I'd be lying extremely hard haha.
Overall this game is absolutely an amazing series and I can't wait to purchase/emulate the others. What have I been doing with my life without this game?!

Edit; Speaking of which, for anyone who has been playing Awakening, who do you think are the best pairs to past down abilities for children?
At the moment I have the following pairings:

    Chrom/Robin
    Nowi/Donnel
    Maribelle/Gregor
    Stahl/Miriel
    Sully/Lon'qu
    Cordellia/Kellam
    Frederick/Sumia
    Lissa/Ricken

@[member="Eclipse"], if you haven't preordered the collectors edition I highly recommend doing so ASAP.

You know, I find it interesting that they didn't meantion Nowi x Donnell...

With that being said, Galeforce is such a strong trait that of course, if you can pass it down to any kid you should.
But my thing is, with such a limited selection of Galeforce between Sumia and Cordelia (and possibly MU) who would ultimately benefit from it?
Morgan is a power house so of course Morgan should have it, but would these other candidates ultimately be the best for Galeforce?

I'll have to ask my mom for money >.>

I think I'll be playing Hoshido..... it's Birthright in the English version, right?

....define "soon", please. The European version hasn't been given a release date.

White Night Kingdom Hoshido becomes Fates: Birthright in English, correct.

The only region confirmed for a definite release date thus far is North America, though Europe and Australia will be getting it later this year. I simply hope it does not take too long to acquire. I would like to play through all 3 paths, but this might mean I will have to buy a new SD card (as I don't think the one I have now would be able to fit them all - it might, but I doubt it).

Ah, I didn't know that only America has a release date. But I will be picking up Conquest first and then getting the other game for my birthday. I'll get the 3rd game sometime later.

I'm looking forward to Fates quite a bit, and as such, I will eventually buy all three versions. For now, my friend and I are going to each buy one version of the game (Conquest for him, Birthright for me) and we will play through it once, and then we will trade the game and let the other play that one. I've been successfully avoiding spoilers for a long time, and since there are only a few weeks left, I'm hyped for what the game has to offer. If it's anywhere as good as Awakening, then I'll be just fine.

I'm really curious as to if I'll like Fates or not. Some of the changes seem weird but I'm not going to make judgement until I've played it. The removal of weapon durability is really strange and the main thing I'm talking about.

That's just the thing, I'm conflicted about that too. It's been an integral part of the Fire Emblem Franchise for so long, I find it kind of strange that they are doing that. In Awakening, it wasn't a bother at all to go and pick up new weapons for the most part (event weapons and such were hard), and I didn't understand the complaining. I think the creators could have gone at it a little better, and made only special weapons unlimited, or something like that. IDK, I'm not sure if that's too important, but it will appeal to more people with the new weapon durability.

They took out weapon durability!?!?!? Come on...

They already took out the weapon's triangle for magic, no weapon durability... the strategy and toughness of this game is dying, and that's a lot of what appealed to me in the first place. Well... I'm sure it can still be a tough game. I just don't like to see these types of things removed, i'm not sure what they're going for here. Simplified gameplay, but the story and the whole marriage thing are moving towards a more mature audience. Feels like its 2 different directions here

I feel as if I'm the only one who, on paper, the weapon durability removal seemed a very good thing. When playing any Fire Emblem game (Awakening in particular), having to buy new weapons just for those who cross-classed, or whose weapons were just about to run out, seemed like an unnecessary step or diversion. Money was never really a problem for me as that was fairly easy to obtain, and beyond that, the 'ultimate' weapons that you get near the end of the game have limited durability as well, seemingly defeating the purpose. I liked things with infinite uses, to the point where - in Awakening, at least - I would prioritise Chrom's Falchion over all other weapon types (unless I wanted to use a Spear on purpose or something), as well as try to get Armsthrift onto any character who could possibly get it. It becomes a wasted skill slot that I'd rather use for other things because my uber-weapons will ultimately die if I don't.

Of course, this is all just an on-paper assumption. Fates may enact a system that works radically differently that it might not be a concern - and you end up with other concerns instead. (I remember hearing of limited re-classing, though I don't know how accurate that statement is.) I'll have to wait and see when it comes out...whenever that is.

I heard that each weapon was gonna have its own unique thing (I think with like hand axes and javelins it was that they couldn't double at range, and I think Bronze weapons had increased damage but were unable to crit. It's been a while so I can't remember the specifics, so don't quote me on this.)
