Do you ever find yourself "Fishing for compliments" (As my dad puts it) That is, looking for ways to be complimented, even if your methods are a bit backhanded.

I admittedly do this all the time, especially at home I'll ask my mother and step father if I'm a good person or what good traits I have lol.

    What about you?

I don't, I actually freak out when someone Compliments me Because I'm so not used to it. I Usually DENY the Compliments but then say Thanks after it, It's a Sad Habit of mine.

And here I thought I was the only one. Except, in my case, I don't take back the denial ever.

When it comes to compliments, as far as I am concerned, I will accept the compliment if it pertains to something I enjoy or take some measure of personal pride in, and instinctively reject it if it doesn't. The issue with that is virtually nothing gives me any personal pride - a lot of what I do, I do it because I have to, not because I want to - and when someone compliments me on something I didn't want to do for reasons I didn't want to have, it actually comes off as an insult, and I'll try to negate it via any means possible, or just ignore it entirely.

I used to have a hard time taking compliments, but I've found a simple "thank you," and moving on does the trick.

As for fishing for compliments, I avoid it as much as consciously possible. As a matter of fact, I often worry that people think I am fishing for compliments when I'm not, but instead I'm usually just saying something relevent or entertaining.

A compliment would be very nice, actually, but I find it difficult to accept them as people don't really bring forth the meaning in them. I never "fish for compliments" because people I know will think of me as a bad person who always expects things.

Well, I used to do this a lot to my parents haha... But my friends/colleagues? Not really. I'm not really comfortable with compliments because most of the time I'm not prepared to response. (Do I compliment them back? Or do I just say thanks?)

I used to have this bad habit of thinking someone was just joking or have some kind of ulterior motive. I just... it's kinda hard for me to accept compliments? I mean, I usually thank them or say something like "naww it's nothing" but in truth I didn't believe what they're saying was true.

Thankfully I don't do it as much anymore because hey, compliments are nice, just accept them and say thank you. It's a lot easier than dwelling on whether they meant it or not.

I never fish for compliments but sometimes it happens when i am not fishing for compliments they think i am. Compliment is good but i like complimenting people instead of taking them. I complement for the things they not for being nice. If they are not good i will never compliment them.

I get complimented on my looks frequently and it leaves me feeling embarrassed, for the most part.
In terms of seeking some, maybe for my writing and gfx I do look to that outlet, if only for feedback re inforcement.

I don't fish for two reasons: one is because I get my approval from within, and two because I get occasional compliments anyway without fishing. And that's cool, I just usually reply with "thank you" plus a similar-intensity compliment to the other person. You compliment the shirt I'm wearing, I'll say "Thanks, I've been meaning to wear more green lately. Also you're looking good with your hair not tied back, and I think it would be a good look if you decided to run with that. On the other hand, with your looks, you can certainly run with either choice and still be a solid nine." And yes, in case you're asking, my real-life SPECIAL points does mark me as having a 8 or 9 in Charisma.

Occasionally I will throw a self-defeating anti-compliment at myself in conversation, just as a joke, not as a compliment fishing. I'm pretty skinny and could surely stand to work out some, but whenever I take off a jacket and am left with uncovered arms, if someone asks "are you warm?" I'll reply with "No, I just feel like I need to bring the gun show to town. We can't leave that entire job to <insert buff guy here>, can we?" Not fishing for compliments, just acknowledging one of my appearance shortcomings with humor.

It's not like I try to fish for compliments. It might be just a slip of the tongue in a jest. I don't really like to do it because it makes me feel like I need the approval of others. I do get a little jealous of others, but there's nothing wrong with that. I don't need anyone else to judge my self worth. I just put who I am out and just let whatever happens happen. If I get compliments, I'll take it, if I don't, there's nothing wrong with that.

I dont really deal well with getting compliments, but that doesnt mean I dont appreciate them. So yeah there are definitely times where I'm fishing for them. I'll do it subtle though, I wont just ask. I try to just steer the conversation in a way that could lead to being complimented xD

I don't fish for compliments as much as I fish for feedback. Whenever I ask someone a question about myself, or my art, or anything else related to me or my work- I'm not asking for empty praise. I genuinely want some sort of feedback, as long as it's said in a helpful way and not just saying that I suck at life, haha. If someone has nothing else to say other than praise, I won't fault them for that, but whenever I look for feedback I hope to get exactly that. Sometimes when I'm having a particularly bad day I'll get reassurance from my friends that I'm a good person, but other than that I don't really fish for compliments all that much.

I also have issues with putting my own self and my work down, which some people can see as fishing for compliments. I apologize if that is how that is taken, but I genuinely feel like that quite a bit of the time.

Plz compliment me I love to get praise from others much tnx in advance

I always act weird whenever I get a compliment, but I do really appreciate them. In fact, there's something inside of me that wants others to tell me if I'm doing great or not, or else I become really unsure of myself. I need those compliments to keep going, welp.

The only way I fish for compliments or feedback is when I update a story I'm working on and ask those who read it immediately what they thought of it. Occasionally, they exclaim how much they love my work, but I think they'd love anything I write. What I truly look for when I ask what they think of it is well-thought constructive criticism. While compliments boost one's self-confidence, they do not improve one's skills. But that's just my opinion.
