You're in a battle and all of the sudden, you're Pokémon fails to move! Flinch is a secondary status effect that renders your Pokémon helpless for an entire turn. Flinches only occur when your opponent is faster and lands an attack on your Pokémon first. There are a variety of moves that cause flinching, such as Air Slash, Stomp, and Extrasensory. The most notorious of all flinching moves is Fake Out, that has a 100% flinch rate, but at the cost of it only working the first turn its used in battle. Flinch is also frequently used in combination with paralysis, resulting in what many call "hax." Since flinch and paralysis factors both apply, the chance of attacking diminishes even more. However, the ability Inner Focus lets some Pokémon be immune to Flinching and Steadfast increases the user's speed when flinched, thus preventing future flinches once the user is faster. What are your experiences with the Flinch condition? Do you think it has a major impact on battles? Do you use attacks that have a chance to flinch?

I understand why flinching exists, I really do. I just simply hate paraflinch in just about every way. Flinching is alright in my books as long is doesn't keep happening.

Well I'm always on the wrong side of hax, aren't I? Flinching just happens too much to me and it is one of the many reasons I don't do as much competitive battling as I used to. Abilities like Steadfast may be darn helpful, but still, flinching can be annoying.

Also, it doesn't help that I will never forfeit a battle.

I have a paraflinch togekiss and a paraflinch jirachi, but I only use them for the battle Maison and against my friends as a joke. I would not want my opponent to use cheap tactics like paraflinch against me, so I don't use them against others in serious battles. It's simple respect for your opponent, in my opinion.

mfw no mention of Rock Slide

Well, considering I'm the guy that runs Togekiss on like 60% of his VGC teams, with that clean 57% chance to flinch, and typically alongside Terrakion to bump that up a little further, it's a pretty good strategy. Flinching is very strong-- it's half the reason people run Rock Slide on scarfed Lando-T over Stone Edge in VGC and all. Maybe that's just VGC, though-- all I can think of is Togekiss with Air Slash, and Jirachi, with Bisharp and Excadrill to a lesser degree with Iron Head.

I have to agree with North here. It's a pretty viable strategy in VGC, and it doesn't really rely on flinching as much as you may think. I think they're nice on your side as all hax are, but I take it with a grain of salt.

Flinches are in no way, shape, or form broken. There are several counters tot hem, much like everything else. Inner Focus? Steadfast?
Yes, flinches can be obnoxious at times if you're on the receiving end, but there are counters to everything. I have no problems with flinching Mons. I use them occasionally myself.

I've lost tons of battles due to flinches. Especially the move fake out.
I hate flinching, but I have used it to my advantage, way too much.

lol Flinch=Hax. Hax is a part of the game.

The goal of the game, at the end of the day, is to win. Therefore, you must embrace the hax. If the only way you can win is to fish for flinches, then you should fish for flinches. if para-flinch is a strong strategy, then you should use it.

@[member="Spammernoob"] I'll admit that it was slightly different than I thought, but perhaps relating me and my comments to an oft-failing "scrub" who complains ceaselessly about facets of the game and is deemed obviously immature was something that could have not been mentioned.

The reason I dislike flinch hax is the same as the reason I hate the attracted status condition. Their rediculously high chance for the afflicted Pokémon to be unable to do anything is something that goes against the point of why I play. I play to see what other people are doing with their Pokémon and to show the tactics I thought up. Causing my opponent to be unable to move doesn't align with my goals in that perspective, and frustrates me when it is used against me. Maybe it's because I'm not a very competitive person, but Pokémon is more fun to me when I can talk genuinely about strategy with my opponent afterwards instead of having them punch me in the teeth from anger over my use of flinch hax.

So maybe I do go into my battles "having already lost" due to my obviously flawed mindset. You could go ahead and ask the people I've beaten on whether that is true, if you'd like. ;)

I often see Rock Slide on Landorus-T, terrakion and garchomp these days.... and when they flinch,
I want to punch my computer monitor. And there is when I facepalm.

    Like seriously, make rock slide with 10% flinch chance ;_;

I run a Mega Kangaskhan. Fake out's flinch has been a lifesaver in many cases.

There are times I'm sure I can't take down an opponent with a sucker punch so I soften them up first with fake out to deal a decent amount of damage (with Mega Kanga's buffed atk and ability it can be devastating) before taking an opponent out.

Fake out also is a lifesaver in double battles. Running a Greninja @ Life Orb and Mega Kanga lead in the Battle Maison, saving Greninja's butt with a fake out has always proved helpful.

Still Serene Grace Togekiss with Air Slash is a pain. Lost several due to them.
