I've wanted to do a Pokémon challenge for a while now considering the fact that I haven't attempted one before. I've decided to start out small with what, I believe, is the easiest of the challenges. I am going to be attempting the mono-type challenge. It might be easier than the others but considering my typing of choice, I won't be a pushover. I'll be doing a play-through of Pokémon Black 2 for my mono-type.

I'll be using the Dark type for this challenge. It is one of my favorite types to use and I think it might be more of a challenge for me to use Pokémon with a typing that is not effective against most of the gyms in Pokémon Black 2.
The first Pokémon I'm going to use will be Purrloin and I'll be using that as my 'starter'. I will effectively release whichever starter I choose from Professor Juniper after I catch my Purrloin.
I will also be nicknaming every Dark type Pokémon I choose to catch.

    Now for the rules:

    1. Whatever type you choose, you can ONLY use that type for the whole playthrough. I'm not allowed to switch types any time throughout the game. I've chosen the Dark type so Dark type it is.

    2. You may not use two Pokémon from the same evolution family. This one is pretty self-explanatory. If I catch a Purrloin I'm not allowed to catch a Liepard afterwards.

    3. You are allowed 2 trades in total for each Monotype challenge. I'm allowed to trade from another game to get a Pokémon that is not available at the start or is not available in this game. It has to be Dark typed or part Dark typed, however. In-game trades are permitted, though, if I want to trade for the sole purpose of evolving my Pokémon.

    4. If I spot a shiny Pokémon, I'm allowed to catch it. It may never be used throughout the challenge, however, and MUST be boxed.

    5. All Pokémon must be nicknamed. Obviously

    6. A maximum of TWO HM slaves may be used. I've limited myself to two maximum HM slaves if no Pokémon in my team can learn the HM.

    7. I'll try to keep my Pokémon team's levels constant throughout. I'm not going to over-level my Pokémon since this would make it less of a challenge.

    8. I'm going to end my challenge once I've defeated the Elite Four and become Champion. I will then be the reigning Dark type Champion and end the challenge there.

    9. The usage of legendary Pokémon is prohibited. If I do encounter a legendary Pokémon I will defeat it rather than catch it.

    10. No glitching or cheating. Nope. That would spoil the whole challenge.

Update #1 - An Unexpected Journey

All feedback is welcome! Feel free to let me know what Pokémon I should use on this challenge, movesets etc. More updates will come soon.

Update Number 1 - An Unexpected Journey

Here's the start of my challenge. I hope you enjoy reading!

So, I'm introduced to a lady by the name of Professor Juniper at the start of my journey. She tells me that she is the Pokémon Professor of the Unova region and about all the wonders and joys of Pokémon. She then gives a form to me in which I fill out my name and gender. Eventually I'm sent into the amazing world of Pokémon.

My mother calls me from my room and explains to me that Professor Juniper is an old friend of hers. She received a call earlier from the Professor asking whether I'd like a Pokémon and to assist her with the Pokédex. She then sends me on my way to find a girl by the name of Bianca, who is the Professor's assistant. I'm told to look out for a big, green hat.

I then leave my house and take my first steps in the land of Unova and depart on my journey. Not too long before I meet up with an old friend of mine, Hugh (it literally wasn't long, like 8 steps). He is accompanied by his little sister. He asks whether I have a Pokémon, and I reply no. He then goes on about being bored etc. but soon realizes that I'm on my way to find Bianca, who is going to give me my first Pokémon. His sister then gives me some moral advice about Pokémon.

Now, with Hugh accompanying me, I set off yet again, in search of the elusive Bianca. We eventually find her at the Aspertia City Lookout. My mom was right about looking out for a big, green hat too. She then introduces herself to me and being a bit of a ditz does not recognise who I am. After telling her and feeling a bit awkward afterwards, she opens a case with three shiny Pokéballs resting inside of it.

It's time for me to choose my very first Pokémon (well, sorta). She offers me a choice of three: Snivy the grass type, Tepig the fire type and Oshawott the water type Pokémon. I decide to choose Oshawott and nickname him 'Freedom' (which I believe is quite appropriate considering the fact that he will be free soon). I'm then given a high tech almanac known as the Pokédex. Bianca explains how it works and gives another to Hugh.

Hugh talked the entire way to the lookout about having a Pokémon battle with me once I received my Pokémon, so I decided to challenge him to a battle.
He sends out his Snivy and I send out Freedom. Going into the match I already had a type disadvantage but luckily his Snivy hasn't got a grass-type move. It's quite speedy though, so I had to play my cards right.
I start out with Tail Whip, lowering his Snivy's defense, opting for a quick finish with a few Tackles. However, Snivy outpaces my Oshawott and his Tackle strikes first dealing 4 points of damage to Freedom. I then use a Tackle of my own leaving his Snivy with just under 2/3 HP. Two more Tackles and I finish his Snivy off, giving me the victory. Freedom advances to level 6 and has demonstrated to me that he would have been a great member of my team, unfortunate that I have to release him soon. Hugh thanks me for the battle and we go our separate ways, allowing me to explore Aspertia a bit more.

Before I start wandering, Bianca insists that I must go to a Pokémon Center to heal my Pokémon. She shows me around and I give my Pokémon to the kind nurse to heal Freedom. We talk more and she decides to give me a few Pokéballs that will be used for completing the Pokédex. Collecting Freedom, we leave the center and bump into my Mom and Hugh's sister. Mom gives me the Running Shoes and explains the complicated process of running. Turns out legs weren't made for that purpose after all! Anyway, Hugh's little sister then gives me two Town Maps, one of which must be delivered to Hugh. Bianca then says farewell, wishes me good luck and goes on her way. I wonder if I'll bump into her again.

Saying my goodbyes, I decide to explore Aspertia a bit more before setting off on my journey to deliver the Town Map to Hugh.

Freedom has really proven himself to be a trustworthy and friendly team member. It will be sad to see him go soon. He would have been a great member of my team. I hope he finds a nice female Oshawott to settle down with in the wild.

The story is well-written, but I think you could differ from the original game a bit. Like saying "she asked if I'm a boy or a girl" is totally lame, so it could be something like "I needed to fill a form where they asked where I came from, my gender and my name". The fights are pretty well done, however, it's good to see someone also concentrates on the fighting part of a Nuzlocke.

The Mono-Type Challenge is something I usually do when I play Pokémon, because I like the feeling of creating a Gym-like team. Even if I add 1 "wildcard", it always fits the theme (like adding a Magneton to a Rain Dance team what I did in Fire Red... yeah, it's not so competitive, but awesome to play with).

Yeah, I totally agree with you. I wrote this a couple months ago and never looked over it so there would be some "that sounds so stupid now that I think of it" moments. Thanks for advice and taking time to read everything though, I thoroughly appreciate it.
Yeah, Mono-Types are pretty fun. I'm going to have to grind with Purrloin for a bit but I think I can handle it. There are some really nice dark-type Pokémon to choose from though, such as Scrafty, Houndour etc. It's going to be interesting.

I've decided to update this, since it has been in hibernation for quite a long time. I have changed some wording/phrasing etc. to something more suitable and more mature since I wrote the original many months back. I will be continuing this challenge. The next update should come sometime soon. Thanks for reading!
